Personal history
Being born with psionic gifts in his small tribe in Grey's Crag Yikell quickly became his tribes most valuable asset. He excelled in his psionic powers and was martially unmatched by his peers he soon became their hunt leader. Due to his psionically enhanced mind he was considered strangely philosophical to his brethren by thri-kreen standards. He would ask questions of what they thought of him, if they enjoyed battle, what they would like to do if they were forced to leave their native lands, etc. None of them had any answers to his thoughts and he found himself feeling alone despite having plenty of company.
One day as his tribe was attacking the wagon of a human family Yikell found himself about to impale a woman as she cried out "Why are you attacking us!". Suddenly, he dropped his gythka. "Why am I attacking these people?" he thought. "Why do we kill? There is plenty of food in the wagon for us to take and they do not resist. Why do I fight?" Despite these questions seeming simple to most humanoids Yikell found them unanswerable. He did not understand why he fought and killed unnecessarily for years. Even when he wasn't hungry, even when they were unarmed, he would attack, and only now had his mind developed enough to question why. After his tribe killed the woman and they began to eat all their plunder as well as the family he asked his tribemates "Why did we attack these people?" "Food", they answered. "But we could have simply taken their food from their wagon without killing them, and there are other ways to get food out here, arguably easier ways". Being too confused by his questions they simply ignored him.
But Yikell needed answers, and after days of consideration he left his tribe, abandoned them in the middle of an attack. Even after asking the questions he had he always felt that he had to fight, but he did not know why, and so he explored, talked to humanoids who were willing to engage in telepathy with him, rather than running away and calling the guards on him. He discovered that people have reasons for fighting. Some people fight "for" something. So he decided he must find out what he was fighting for, or find something new to fight for. And so he sought out an adventuring party and joined them, that he might discover something to fight for, and understand what he already had been fighting for.
