Impoverished duelist who will find his way to a court through hard work.
Our family used to be a well known name in the courts of ... for a couple of generations. This all came to an end when my father (Henry De Sevigny) lost everything.
My father became head of the household in his twenties when my grandfather, (Roland, a verry competant man) died in a battle. But Henry was terrible at managing his affairs. He preferred to spend money on drinking, parties, gambling, frivolous items, exotic luxuries, ... instead of saving any of it. But it didn't stop there. Not only did he waste his money on these things, but he was also inept at his work and in the court. It wasn't long before he accumulated a serious amount of debt and lost everything. This was also quickened by other noble families who saw an opportunity to increase their standing in the court at the expense of our family. In the end our family lost their titles and the name was quickly forgotten in court, altough many older people wil still remember the name of Roland De Sevigny.
By the time I was in my teens, we were homeless and i had to help support my family. I did this by doing work for a criminal syndicate in a city. When I wasn't working, I continued to train with my sword. When we were still rich, I had a tutor who taught me how to duel, but now I had to learn by myself.
The jobs i did started with simpel jobs like pickpocketing, begging, ... All the poor children who worked for these syndicates started this way and when they become older, they get more dangerous and specialized tasks (Burglary, intimidation, extortion, ...). By the time I was old enough to start with these specialized tasks, I had become quite decent in fencing and definitely didn't hide it for anyone, since i challenged many people to duels (mostly friends). After winning a duel with one of the boss's son, they decided that I could help with jobs like robbing carts and wagons on the roads near the city (But not to near to avoid the city watch). And eventually I even had to do an assasination every once in a while (Not very often, because killing is bad for business ofcourse).
When my mother died after she got sick, my brother and I decided to leave my dad behind and strike out on our own in search of glory, to make a name for ourselves and maybe even find our way to a court and become a noble or a knight.
The syndicate obviously doesn't appreciate it if their members leave them. Soon after we left the city, we were attacked by an assassin, send by the syndicate. We managed to kill him, but we decided to split up, so it becomes harder to find us both. We do still have contact and send eachother notes where we talk about our adventures, what we have been up to, which cities we last visited, where we can send the next letter, ...
