Appearance
Physical Description
He’s about 5’8 and wraithlike. He’s slender, but faintly muscular; his figure is gently cuved, like a slight hourglass
Body Features
His pitch black hair falls in inky curls to just below his shoulders. His pale skin has a greyish undertone due to his silver blood; when he flushes, his face becomes a deep, steely color. He is missing both his left eye and left arm, a result of his fateful battle against the primordial demon Angor. All that remains of his arm is a heavily scarred, yet completely healed over stump barely two inches in length. He also has a network of garish scars tracing down the entire left side of his body, from temple to toe. He is very self-conscious of his appearance, and hates it when people stare.
Facial Features
His single mocha-colored eye is almond shaped and slightly slanted; his facial features are delicate and slightly effeminate. Nothing remains of his left eye; it appears to have been completely and utterly gouged out, though in truth it was obliterated by magic. He wears an eyepatch to cover the garish socket.
Identifying Characteristics
His most identifying features are his missing arm and eye, as well as the scars lacing the left side of his body. His long hair is an identifier as well.
Physical quirks
He is extremely unaccustomed to missing a limb-and an eye, as well. His depth perception is quite poor, and he stumbles frequently. His balance is completely shot-another thing which greatly unnerves him, as he used to be all but acrobatic in flexibility and balance.
He can transform, as he is a siren. When he transforms, his tail is a deep green with accents of lime, deep blue, and black. His fins are flowing and elegant, and add exactly two feet to his length. They resemble the fins of a halfmoon betta. He has faint scars at the base of his neck where his gills open up when underwater or when distressed. Pants and the like do not transform with him (unless they are extremely short/snug/form-fitting) and become shredded instead.
Apparel & Accessories
As far as clothing goes, he insists on dressing himself, and refuses any and all offers of help. As a result, he has had to alter how he dresses somewhat. With solely one hand, he cannot button or zip anything, and the action of trying to put on pants usually unbalances him and causes him to fall over. As such, he typically only wears things that he can easily pull on himself, accompanied by slip-on sandals (or bare feet). He hates wearing any sort of long sleeve, as the sight of his empty left sleeve makes him feel sick. Because of this, he either wears clothing with no sleeves or one sleeve missing.
Special abilities
He's decent with a sword, but is crap at hand to hand combat. His voice is very smooth and somewhat lilting. His singing is enchanting, and always flows out in the spirit language. He can speak, read, and write the spirit language innately. Being the new incarnation of the water spirit, he has power over water and the ability to manipulate lightning.
Mentality
Personal history
Eros was born in a distinctly atypical manner—created by the spirit of the sea, he exited the water as a fully-formed toddler, and promptly became a part of the world.
For the first eleven years of his life, he lived in the bustling city of Unda, the largest international trading hub in all of Vaeringr, a den for crime of all sorts, and the disputed capital of the Alstroemerian isles. The wealth gap between the richest people in the isles and the majority of the country’s population is staggering—while the upper elites of Undan society, in particular, are among the wealthiest people in all the world, over sixty percent of Unda’s population lives in poverty.
Homelessness and food insecurity are virtually universal throughout Unda; most people can barely afford to feed themselves, and, as such, children are abhorred. Most are drowned at birth, or within their first two years of life; this practice, having been traditional in instances of children born of unwanted pregnancies, is entirely legal not only in Unda, but all of Alstromeria’s isles. Still, Unda’s population has been growing almost exponentially for thousands of years, and, as it is seen as entirely taboo to euthanize a child that is over three years old, orphans are exceedingly common throughout the city, having either lost their parents to Unda’s infamous plague, the Ruby Affliction, or having simply been abandoned.
Eros grew up surrounded by other orphans, and learned how to be both cutthroat and pitiable at the same time. He was not educated in any formal manner, and instead learned about the world around him through stories, religion, and local traditions.
When he turned eleven, however, he caught the Ruby Affliction—and, after barely managing to fight off the disease, he stowed away on the Osprey, determined to get out of Unda once and for all. He was soon discovered by Captain Viatrix Sansevieria, who took him in—and, though the crew strongly disliked him for the first year or so (on account of his generally bitter demeanor and permanent silence, which they assumed was brought on out of spite, though it was really just because he didn’t speak East Common, which is spoken throughout most of the world), they soon warmed up to him, and grew incredibly protective of him, particularly after he tore out a chunk of an enemy pirate’s ear with his teeth, earning him a lifelong nickname.
Throughout his first two years on the Osprey, he spent a large chunk of his time learning basic literacy skills in his native tongue of West Common, in addition to math, science, geography, and general communication skills in East Common as well. While he eventually became literate in East Common, he did not begin learning how to read or write in his second language until he’d mastered his first, as Veit, the ship’s doctor and his tutor, refused to teach him otherwise.
When he wasn’t studying, he spent his time helping out around the medbay, acting as Veit’s apprentice—and, eventually, he began to learn medicine, particularly in the contexts of treating wounds, tending to infections, performing emergency surgeries (including amputations, removing objects from wounds, and stitching up various lacerations), and treating illnesses of varying severity. By the time he turned eighteen, he was just as capable a doctor as his mentor—which worked out in the crew’s favor, as Veit was killed in a skirmish with some Dolus soldiers just a few months later.
Still, Eros’s life had been far from consistent, even before his mentor’s untimely death.
When he was thirteen, an older crewmate attacked him, dragging him into an alleyway and beating him within an inch of his life, breaking his wrist in the process. The older man had never liked him, and had decided to try and get rid of him while they were docked in a large Typhan city, so that the crew would assume that he’d simply ran away, rather than realizing that he’d been murdered. However, when he attempted to slit Eros’s throat, Eros managed to grab the blade of the knife and drive it back into his attacker’s throat. This was only the first of the many murders that Eros has committed.
After this incident, the crew decided to begin teaching Eros how to fight; nonetheless, due to due his small, dainty stature, he has always lacked the physical strength needed to overpower others. While he’s more successful in fights when using a sword, his true strength lies in stealth and evasion, and he’s incredibly skilled with daggers, in both hand-to-hand and ranged combat.
(TW: Assault)
When Eros was sixteen, he was assaulted by two older men. After becoming separated from his crew due to a botched mercenary job, said men began to follow him—and, as soon as he tried to run, they dragged him into an alleyway, stripped him, beat him, and attempted to assault him.
Luckily, Eros’s guardian, Viatrix, had followed him through most of the city, and, though he ended up losing Eros’s trail for several minutes, he managed to catch up to Eros and cut down his would-be rapists before they could violate him.
This incident was extremely jarring for Eros, and is a major factor as to his extreme aversion to touch, as well as his extreme skittishness when it comes to interactions with others. However, this incident also sparked an incredibly righteous fire within him, and has led to his extremely strict moral code.
Though he’s completely okay with murder, this only applies when he sees it as justified. He refuses to kill those who have no means of defending themselves, as well as those who haven’t done anything deserving of such violence.
People who have used physical violence against those who don’t deserve it, as well as people who have used sexual violence against anyone are scum. Scum is Eros's ultimate insult; once someone has crossed the line of being scum, there is no redemption in his eyes. Due to the nature of their crimes, they are not worthy to be treated as human beings, and must be disposed of at all costs, preferably in the most barbaric way possible. They don’t deserve to be allowed to live; as such, he takes no remorse in killing them.
He’s extremely justice-oriented, and will go out of his way to deliver it in the name of all who have been hurt by violence, including himself.
When he was nineteen, he met Odessa Chrysanthos in an abandoned house in Lapis. She stabbed him, assuming that he was there to finish her off, and he broke her fingers in return. She soon joined the Osprey’s crew, and, before long, became one of Eros’s closest friends.
While running an errand for Viatrix, via breaking into a wealthy merchant’s house and stealing some trinket, he and Odessa discovered the merchant’s liquor collection, and after getting incredibly drunk, they proceeded to trash the place. The next morning, Eros woke up naked in the merchant’s bed, and, after throwing on the first clothes he could find, climbing up to the roof of the mansion to rescue a terrified, hungover Odessa, and falling into the middle of the garden where the merchant’s wife was eating with her friends, he and Odessa rushed back to the Osprey.
He was, quite frankly, humiliated and terrified by the incident, but Odessa comforted him about the situation, and assured him that it was normal and healthy to engage in and enjoy sexual experiences. She ended up being a big source of moral support for him; however, her ruthless nature, her lack of morals, and her general disregard for his emotions, concerns, and triumphs kept him from growing to truly love her, much less trust her implicitly.
When he was twenty-three, Odessa staged a mutiny against Viatrix during a vicious storm—and, when Eros sided with Viatrix, she had him beaten to a pulp by her mutineers, and, after confronting him and having him beaten once again, she personally threw him over the side of the Osprey, sending him to his death.
Eros drowned that night—but, as he was, quite literally, a child of the sea spirit, he reconnected with his patron deity, who imbued him with its power and transformed him into a siren.
The transformation, in and of itself, was agonizing—but the months that followed were entirely filled with fear, as he struggled to come to terms with what he had become. He took to wearing turtlenecks, in order to cover his gills, and, though occasionally experimenting with his transformative powers, he did everything in his power to avoid anything that would expose him as a siren and cause people to attack him.
Still, he ended up joining Crow Moonclaw on his quest to undo Gelu’s curse, and, after Cassiopeia Dolus inadvertently summoned the primordial demon Angor, he sacrificed himself in an attempt to slay the demon.
The sea spirit, however, intervened one last time, sacrificing itself in order to kill Angor, and passing its power on to Eros in the process, thus saving his life. Still, this transfer of power wasn’t enough to mitigate the entirety of the destruction that Angor had wreaked upon his body, and, when Eros awoke in Canna, he was missing his arm and eye.
Upon meeting Helios, he was hesitant to trust the naga, but, in the wake of his battle with Angor, he was in a vulnerable enough state that he agreed to let Helios help him. Soon, however, he found himself coming to genuinely care for the naga—and, before long, he fell deeply in love with the naga. Once it sank in that Helios had no intention of doing anything but showering him in love and just being a part of his life, he finally opened up, and allowed himself to share the entirety of who he was with Helios.

Eros is bisexual, and tends to prefer men.
person.gender_identity
Eros is cisgender; however, he doesn't have much of a preference as to how he presents socially. He enjoys very feminine things, such as jewelry and dresses; he loves having his hair long. He doesn't grouse over being perceived as feminine; he enjoys what he enjoys, and he doesn't care for labels in how he expresses himself.
Known Languages
Eros knows both East and West Common, as well as the Spirit Language.
Personality
Motivation
Eros is an extremely anxious person, in just about every sense of the word. He is extremely wary when interacting with people that he doesn’t know well, and tends to judge interactions with others based on how likely they are to attack him. While he doesn’t automatically assume the worst of those around him, he is keenly observant of others’ body language and facial expressions, and, if a situation seems to be going south, he immediately enters fight-or-flight mode, and begins to figure out how to best escape said situation.
It doesn’t take much to trigger his fight-or-flight reaction, but his reaction to threats tends to vary, depending on his knowledge of his opponent’s abilities, whether or not they are armed, and whether or not they’re touching him. If his opponent can physically overpower him, or is otherwise a significant threat due to having a weapon when he does not, his immediate reaction is to run away as quickly as he can—but, if the other person has touched him in a threatening manner, he will strike back with ruthless force.
Eros is very touch-averse; he does not like being touched by anyone else, save for those that he knows particularly well. Even still, if someone grabs him without warning, he will strike at them; if anyone forcibly restrains him, his revenge tends to be swift and brutal. He refuses to kill without good reason, but being restrained, grabbed, or touched against his will or in a threatening manner is more than reason enough to use lethal force against others.
However, though he still despises them, casual, accidental, or non-malicious instances of these forms of touch never draw lethal force from him. Though he may still strike out if panicked or angry, he won’t turn excess violence unto those who aren’t trying to hurt him or those he loves. He strongly refuses to hurt people that he deems as innocent; as such, he will only ever use as much force as is needed to get them to let go of him. Most of the time, this equates to swatting someone’s hand away, and nothing more.
Generally, however, due to his cold, standoffish demeanor, people don’t tend to approach him in a conversational manner—but his interpersonal relationships are where the majority of his anxiety takes root.
Having grown up on the streets of Unda, surrounded by other orphans and various destitute families, he rarely got a chance to socialize with others, other than the occasional shared meal (or story), and the constant fighting for food and shelter between them all. As such, he didn’t build any sort of healthy interpersonal skills—a situation which was only furthered by his time on the Osprey.
Eros’s first language was West Common, and, unfortunately, only two of his crewmates spoke this tongue fluently. He spent the majority of his first year aboard the Osprey dead silent, only casting scathing glares towards the rest of the crew and occasionally speaking in private with Viatrix, his captain (and later his adoptive father), and Veit, the ship’s doctor. While the crew had initially disliked him, due to the fact that he was a literal child aboard their ship, they soon warmed up to him, due to how quickly he learned how to help out in the infirmary—but, of course, this didn’t last long, as he seemingly ignored them each and every time they tried to talk to him. If he was called by name, then he responded immediately, only to glower at them when they tried to talk to him further.
As such, the crew assumed that he was spiting them somehow, and ignoring them out of some sort of malice—when, in truth, he was just frustrated that they were talking to him in East Common and then getting mad at him for no reason, when they obviously knew that he couldn’t speak their language. The crew just got more and more frustrated, and took their anger out on Eros by forcing him to do all of the most undesirable tasks aboard the ship—which only made Eros more frustrated.
While he was slowly learning East Common, he couldn’t understand anything more than the most basic of phrases, and he was too frustrated and anxious to try speaking back to them with the few words that he knew. After a fight with an enemy pirate crew, however, the crew realized that he only spoke West Common, and immediately began to try and mend things with Eros—but, as a whole, the damage was done.
Throughout both his childhood and his life as a whole, the majority of Eros’s experiences with the world and those around him have been tied to animosity at best and overwhelming danger at worst—and, as a result, his ability to cooperate and communicate with others is extremely stunted, to say the very least.
He doesn’t know how to deal with conflict; when things take a turn for the worst, he tends to shut down entirely. He is extremely wary of the majority of people around him, and tends to hold them at an arm’s length. He’s cold, mocking, and fairly snappish—but, when he takes a liking to someone, he’s extremely vulnerable and distinctly more anxious than before.
He doesn’t know how to open up to others, much less how to deal with affection and kindness. He worries that any slip-up on his end will incite the other person into hurting him, whether in a physical sense, or by abandoning him—and, as a result, he keeps countless secrets from those around him, and constantly bottles up his emotions.
He doesn’t want to give the people that he loves any reason to hurt him, and he feels that, if he shares sensitive information with them (such as his fears, his siren nature, and his history as a whole), then they will take advantage of that to hurt him all the more. People have hurt him before, often without any sort of rhyme or reason—and so, if he gives someone any excuse to do so, then they will hurt him in even worse ways. He’s terrified of being hurt by the people he trusts, because he can’t bear to lose them, too. He despises betrayal, and he doesn’t believe in second chances for those who have purposely hurt him.
Still, his anxious, secretive behaviour is typically only present in his relationships with those that he does not trust fully. In these relationships, he is still standoffish, but he is generally less spiteful and defensive around those that he trusts even on such a minimal level.
When Eros trusts someone fully, however, the difference is overwhelming.
First and foremost, any trace of his usual cold, mocking demeanor is absent. He’s gentle, doting, and generally extremely fretful. He is still a little nervous around them, but this is mainly due to his difficulty conversing with others in general, and, particularly, his worry that he’s talking too much.
He is extremely open in these trusting relationships, and will talk for hours if allowed. As these relationships of his are defined by the fact that he loves and trusts the other person involved on a deep, fundamental level, he rarely, if ever, has his guard up around them, to such a degree that he’ll often remain relaxed, even if he’s otherwise surrounded by people who put him on edge.
Quite frankly, it wasn’t until he met his fiancé, Helios, that he came to trust anyone on such a fundamental level—and, as a result, no one but Helios has really seen Eros for who he truly is.
For the majority of his life, Eros has lived in fear—and, when one lives in a constant state of fear, they can't be their authentic self. In learning to trust Helios, Eros finally found a place (emotionally, mentally, socially, and physically), where he feels safe. Though Helios didn't change him, by any means, Helios just made him feel safe enough to thrive—and, as a result, Eros has come into his own, growing as a person as he finally discovers who he truly is, and what he’s capable of.
For the first time in his life, Eros fully understand that he is safe, that he is loved, and that he can trust and love someone in return—and that, in truth, is what has changed him, allowing him to be all that he truly IS.
In reality, Eros is curious, adventurous, and undetteredly bold. He’s sarcastic and mischievous, and loves running around, climbing everything in sight, and roughhousing. He’s incredibly physically affectionate, and is exuberant in all that he does. He is extremely talkative, and will talk for hours on end without prompting, if given the opportunity. He’s strikingly energetic at times, and often initiates various games of tag unprompted—but, at the very same time, he’s unafraid to be completely and utterly lazy.
He’s as stubborn as always, but primarily in a childish, mischievous way. He enjoys teasing Helios, and just generally joking around with the naga; though he tires much more easily than Helios does, and is rarely as distinctly energetic, he’s always distinctly pleased with his life and all that it encompasses.
Most of the time, he’s still very subdued, and still a little shy when interacting with others—but, on a whole, he’s generally at ease, and, remarkably, happy. He’s distinctly gentle, incredibly earnest, and remarkably open; he’s doting to no end, and loves showering Helios in as much affection as is humanly possible. When Helios is at all exhausted or burnt out, Eros drops everything to take care of him, and goes out of his way to prepare the naga’s favorite foods, teas, and activities.
His bond with Helios is extremely strong, as they both trust and love each other innately and fully. Though they often bicker, and, like all couples, feel frustrated with each other from time to time, they put a great deal of effort into communicating with each other, as well as being open about their emotions and desires; as a result, they virtually never have significant fights.
While, naturally, most of their arguments aren’t resolved immediately, they love each other immensely, and, as such, they both work as hard as they can to reach an understanding or solve any problem that has come up between them. They respect each other on a fundamental level, and they try their best to talk about issues before they become problems. They hate fighting with each other, more than anything else, as they both can’t stand seeing each other hurt or upset in any way, particularly if it’s their fault.
Even when in the midst of an argument, they’re all but completely inseparable. They hate feeling at odds with each other, and they hate having hurt each others’ feelings—and so, even when they’re upset with each other, they’re constantly cuddling or holding hands or otherwise trying to comfort each other. No matter how upset they are, they always want to make sure that their partner is okay; no matter the situation, they still love and care for each other on a fundamental level, and this devotion is the root of all of their interactions.
Overall, while they may get frustrated with each other, or worry about each other to the point of butting heads, they trust and care for each other on such a foundational level that nothing can drive any sort of wedge between them. There’s nothing that either of them want more than to be at each others’ side, and they’re both just genuinely happy to be together. Nothing can stand between them, as they’re willing to fight tooth and nail to be with each other and to protect each other.
While they can both absolutely function separately, they hate being apart; Eros, though more confident and relaxed with Helios at his side, is still much more self-assured and mischievous than he’s ever been before.
Eros, like Helios, gets extremely anxious when they’re separated, as he can’t stand the thought of Helios being in danger, or hurt in any way, shape, or form. He is willing to destroy everything in his path in order to protect Helios, and will do so without hesitation.
