Personal history
Born in the bustling yet cozy village of Greenhollow in the halfling nation of Thorpeairne, Vinzor Proudfoot was raised amid verdant fields, bustling markets, and jovial neighbors. His parents, Mainard and Agnes Proudfoot, were pillars of their community, Mainard, an exceptional baker known across Thorpeairne for his pies and pastries, and Agnes, a gifted herbalist whose remedies brought healing and relief to countless travelers.
Vinzor’s childhood was filled with laughter and mischief alongside his siblings, Pippin and Maltina. Together, they explored every hidden corner of Greenhollow and beyond, their curiosity matched only by their adventurous spirit. Yet, beneath the idyllic veneer of their family life lay secrets unknown even to the young Proudfoots.
Life took an unexpected turn for Vinzor on the eve of his thirty-fifth birthday. Returning from a late evening market, Vinzor discovered an unconscious, injured stranger hidden in their barn. Concerned yet cautious, he tended the stranger's wounds in secrecy. When the stranger briefly regained consciousness, he urgently handed Vinzor a sealed envelope bearing an unfamiliar emblem, a pair of crossed daggers woven into an intricate eye.
"Agatha Bottom," the stranger gasped, eyes wild with desperation. "The fate of Thorpeairne, no, perhaps all of Aurasong, depends on her seeing this. Trust no one."
Before Vinzor could question further, the stranger succumbed once again to unconsciousness, slipping into a fevered delirium from which he never awoke. Driven by unease and compelled by a burgeoning sense of responsibility, Vinzor hid the letter, uncertain whom he could trust with its contents.
Weeks passed, but the mysterious symbol haunted Vinzor’s dreams. Finally, unable to bear the suspense any longer, he cautiously opened the envelope. Within lay only a single, cryptic line: "The tailor knows the threads that bind us all. Find Agatha Bottom in Ailre."
Without hesitation, he chose to take the letter himself, driven by a sense of curiosity, adventure, and urgency. He loaded his wagon with his finest trade goods, Mainard's spices, Agnes’s potent herbal remedies, and crafts from Greenhollow artisans, and set out for distant Ailre.
