Biography

Althos has always had an eye for innovation, for creating things. He kicked off his career with simple baubles and trinkets, steadily working his way up the ladder of invention. Learning to use a forge and various other tools, he took to making tools, weapons and armor rather quickly. Always striving to do more, to be better, Althos wasn't satisfied. He knew he could be more groundbreaking than any normal smithy, and he'd prove it to the world. He started seeing invention as a means for creating something far greater than simple tools or weapons. He sought to craft something the world had never seen before- an autonomous machine.
 
This challenge was not without it's hurdles- he needed plenty of supplies, and funding with which to secure them. The dragonborn would have to secure an investment- a tall task given his knack for conversation, or lack thereof. While it was easy to convince Korrin of his aspirations he soon found himself having to plead his case to a more serious crowd- Amraq Rexan, the sister of the previous Copper Overlord. Amraq and the other potential benefactors made one thing clear- they saw promise in his designs but needed something specific- they requested a machine of war. Eager for recognition and wealth, Althos accepted this request, resigning himself to his work. The nature of this new invention and it's implications began to put a strain on his relationship with Korrin, yet in Althos' mind the end result would justify the means.
 
Months pass, and through some stroke of genius, or miracle of magic, the automaton is completed. The result was far from expected. What should have been a mindless wartime drone instead exhibited some degree of self-awareness. This creation seemed to have desires, would try to form bonds, and had what could be considered a sense of self-preservation beyond what would have been previously programmed.
 
Althos' attitude took a turn for the worse. Pride and ambition gave way to conceit and bitterness. How could he fail? He would not accept this, and as he labored to fix his mistake, his world began to unravel around him. His failures had not gone unnoticed, and his funding was in jeopardy. The deteriorating attitude that resulted from this drove Korrin away for a time, and as if things couldn't get any worse, a freak monster attack in the swamp would rob him of his right arm. His life was saved by his failed creation, and Althos seethed with anger at the world. Korrin may have returned to him, but this one good thing seemed bleak when the cards were so stacked against him. After he recovered he sidetracked from his pet project, going into debt in order to build himself a magic infused prosthetic arm- an achievement in it's own right, yet overshadowed by circumstance.
 
Althos carries this bitterness with him, even now after being drafted into the Draconian Defense Force. Whether he plans on actually cooperating or using his time there purely for his own ends remains to be seen...
