Personal history
Ethel was born in London to the Potts family a well known upper class family that was falling slowly on hard times. Ethel's father wanted nothing more than to find a well to do gentleman and get hitched. She of course didn't want that and took solace in her mother. Mrs. Potts always read to her daughter stories by Mary Shelly, Bram Stroker, and others. Ethel loved the dark settings of a Victorian London that feared the night. Things would take a tragic turn and one night on their way home from a party Mrs. Potts and Ethel were in an automobile accident and went into the Thames. Ethel's mother managed to get Ethel out of the car but, Mrs. Potts did not survive.
Ethel's father now unopposed ramped up the game and started trying to arrange his daughters ideal match. Ethel uninterested in the whole thing took to writing. She used an old typewriter that her mother owned. By the age of 15 Ethel had published her first book "Carvings During a Full Moon" a story about a Lumberjack who is haunted by a creature in the Forrest. Ethel was an overnight sensation with her book reaching the London top 100. She would use this success to attend university and launch her career as a novelist.
Upon returning home after university Ethel found herself with her father who actually arranged a match with another Novelist named Arthur Lansburry. Ethel had no desire to wed him but, after her father's insistence and constant nagging she did. Arthur was good at what he did and that was write mysteries and Ethel wouldn't be lying if it didn't fuel her creativity and she started writing more and more with the idea of writing a better book than Arthur. She however would be unhappy at home and soon boarded a ship and shipped off to Boston where she could be by herself and write
In Boston Ethel was happy, she was writing more and more and more importantly she didn't have to see Arthur. It would be here she would make friends with her like minded lady friends, her book club, that would meet and discuss the latest gossip. She would also meet Charlie a detective that put her on a direct collision course with the rest of her life. Charlie brought her on a case where someone had recreated the final act of Ethel's first book. Ethel consulted and soon helped Charlie find the culprit.
Through Charlie she'd meet the other E girls/ Charlie's other correspondences.
