Personal history
The daughter of a long line of smiths and traders, Indira had always anticipated working the great forge like her ancestors, contributing finely crafted arms and armor to the steadily building dwarven empire. The first time that she ever left Saad’Druevein, however, something strange happened to her that would change the entire course of her life. It was in the midst of a raging storm and the caravan that she was apart of was pushing towards Ironrun, when a bolt of lightning came down and struck her.
Normally such a phenomenon would result in a person’s death, but Indira survived thus earning the name ‘Stormtouched’ and became a bit of celebrity within the halls of Saad’Druevein. Many would seek her out for her ‘blessing’ and started to believe her to be god touched as well. Rumors built that she sought to dethrone Marduuk and take his place as one of the Gods who Decree. She did her best to curb these rumors, as all she ever wished for was to be apart of the song of the forge, but the wagging tongues if idle prattle could not be stopped.
The superstitious and suspicious nature of the northern dwarves, especially the old men in power, ultimately led to her being put on trial for heresy and exiled from the only home that she had ever known. With little more than the clothes on her back and a pack of basic supplies, she began to head to the south, unsure of what to do with herself. She eventually made her way to Corsalet, gathering enough money to board a ship to Saad’Ruedruk (the only other dwarven stronghold) in hopes that she could find a purpose there.
During the voyage, the ship had to pass through a tempest of incredible power, the crew believed that the ship was to be lost and their lives forfeit. It was during this that Indira felt something inside her awaken and with a thought and a strong prayer to Marduuk for salvation for the others, but not necessarily herself, she was struck a second time by lighting and the storm immediately calmed.
When she awoke several days later, as the ship was in sight of Saad’Ruedruk, a vision of Marduuk appeared before her and said, “You’ll do, I suppose,” before vanishing.
Since that moment, Indira immediately threw herself into the acolyte life and service of Marduuk. Unlike all of the other clerics in the service of the dwarven god, she embraced the might of the Tempest and once again, whispers began to surround her and rumors began to rise. But instead of inspiring fear, they inspired respect, which ultimately led Atrahasis take note and an interest in her and her training.
She views Atrahasis as both mentor and patron. His knowledge of wizardy has helped her further harness the storm’s might as she now serves as one of his proxies.
Education
She has been educated in the ways of working in a smithy and how to manage a forge. Her education extended to the business and money handling side of the blacksmith business until she was ousted from her home.
Her education continued after her expulsion, but this time in the ways of the world and how things worked outside of the dwarven stronghold. When she was chosen by Marduuk, she was then educated in his temple and learned the religious rites and ceremonies associated with his worship.
Her most recent foray in to education was when Atrahasis toon her on as a kind of protégé and taught her a bit more about magic outside of the divine that she had learned from the temple.
Employment
She has worked for her family's smithy, served in a temple of Marduuk, and at current she is working for her mentor and patron, Atrahasis, as an adventurer seeking out divine artifacts for his purpose.
Morality & Philosophy
Indira tends to dwell in the gray area of morality. She isn't necessarily good or evil, lawful or chaotic. She tries to do best by people, taking care of the good while punishing the bad.
She acknowledges that she is only one person and that, despite being hand picked by a god to expand his influence, she can't save everyone. At first she had struggled with this thinking that she had to be the hero. But the real world, things that had happened to her, and studying under Atrahasis has put her in a very wide, gray area of morality.
Her reigning principle: Don't be a complete asshole, because sometimes you have to be a little bit of an ass to get shit done.
