005 - Escaping the Crypt

by Feroth Myastan Fishcatcher

We entered what we thought was the final room of the crypt, and I was met with a profound sense of evil. The two zombies were little work, but the flaming skull... it was a lot more trouble. Its fiery ascent from the sarcophagus was promptly followed by a violent explosion of flame, which nearly felled four of us and managed to knock Tenzin and Naeris unconscious. To think a single attack would would us all so... Jeb brought them back from the brink of death and I attacked the skull. I admit, I was not thinking straight, as I failed to call upon Dunatis' strength as I should have. Twice. My companions were hurt, and I was also knocked out. When I came to, the skull was off to the side of the chamber, but no longer spitting flames.

After resting to recover, the foul thing seemed to resurrect itself. Tenzin smashed it back into its inert state, but it seems we have not truly rid ourselves of the thing. We only retrieved something shiny from the sarcophagus, but Vincent said this was not a magical item, so not the item of power we sought. I tried to get us through the door to the next room, wanting to search it for the item we sought, but my efforts led to mud and water leaking in. It would seem the door was holding back the sea itself, so the next room must've been flooded. We promptly left, hopping over the spiked pit (save Music), and forcing our way through the portcullis door which had been shut behind us, perhaps by the troublesome group we encountered. All the while, the crypt rumbled more and more fiercely, as though from an earthquake. We finally made our way to the ocean's surface, and to the Blood Angel.

Once there, Dreadful demanded we show him the power treasure. Tenzin showed him the skull, which convinced him enough... for Tenzin alone to come aboard. Naturally, Tenzin refused, instead saying all of us should come aboard first. He was surely worried, as was I, that Dreadful would take only him back to shore and leave the rest of us to the sharks. Dreadful didn't like Tenzin's protest, and didn't budge even when I mentioned that his whole ship might be in danger from whatever was causing the crypt to quake as it was. Jeb ended up paralyzing the pirate with a spell to allow us up, and Music managed to coerce the pirate into bringing us all back, which pacified the angry crew. I'm glad that worked; another fight after our trials below might have been the end of us.

I truly hope we never must revisit that cursed crypt. But I worry how we are going to convince this band of pirates and Enneth that this cursed skull is indeed the item of power they sought. And that is only the first of our concerns: a mere five days remains before the temporary peace treaty between the Norixian Dragonborn clan and Lizardfolk Tribe expires, after which I am certain blood will be shed. How we are to get back on time, I do not know. But I must try. Dunatis guide me; I must try.
