Personal history

Found on the beach by Admiral Trevelle Seatower as an infant, Neela raised by him and his wife Marian as heir of the Seatower family of Waterdeep. Possessed of an affinity for magic since childhood, she was taken to the temple of Mystra and tutored in magic theory beside her normal education. Marian died when Neela was twelve.
Growing up alongside other young nobles of Waterdeep, Neela dove into the vicious social atmosphere of constant play, by-play and turn about, snide comments and gossip. Most of her peers weren’t particularly or specifically prejudiced against her for being genasi, but both children and teenagers are happy to use anything that makes someone different as a weapon against them - if she was currently on good terms with someone they probably wouldn’t even care she wasn’t human, but if she was currently on the outs with them they’d be thrilled to make fun of her for it. She's never met another Genasi. She had many “friends,” but only one person she truly cared about and trusted - Orinn Steelglory.
Trevelle hated the Steelglory patriarch for his politics, and they have a long rivalry. Neela and Orinn had to hide their friendship to a degree - they were expected to be polite in public, but neither father would have appreciated if they had known that the two of them took any opportunity to sneak off together and with others to drink, play cards, and generally get up to mostly innocent teenage trouble. They had a system of using certain sympathetic servants and guards to relay messages when they wanted to meet up.They were never romantically involved, despite Neela’s feelings for Orrin.
As a teenager, she began to have dreams that seemed to be sent by the Goddess of Magic. After consulting with a priest, she came to the conclusion that Mystra had fated her with being the Goddess' servant, and began practicing to hone her magic into a tool to better serve Mystra.
Trevelle has never much liked the idea of her being any sort of adventurer, and that extends somewhat to her being a cleric of Mystra at all, and only reluctantly let her leave home - and only after making her prove that she could reasonably defend herself.
Following a tugging in her chest that she was sure would lead her to her purpose, she traveled Northeast from Waterdeep as far as Silverymoon. The feeling abruptly disappeared as soon she set foot on the Moonbridge, leaving her, at least for the time being, to her own devices. She chose to seek out experience in the adventuring lifestyle to better prepare herself to serve her goddess, joining the Cunningcloaks guild in Silverymoon despite her misgivings at working with and for low-born mercenaries.
