Backstory

Thane was brought up in the frost lands, where he learned the secrets of binding from his mother and father. He had an older brother named Vidar who despite receiving the same education and upbringing as he did, desired to use the binding to gain more power and leave behind his small community. People started seeing animals drained of all life and color and it wasn't long before they realized that someone was using the forbidden spirit binding. Vidar was found out and sentenced to death, but using his cruelly made machines fashioned in the shapes of the animals he had bound, he escaped. When he returned, He took a masterwork sword from the treasury only known as the Knellblade, and bound the spirits of his parents to the sword. With this fell sword, he fought his way out of the village, nearly killing Thane in the process. When Thane felt he had mastered his knowledge of binding, set out to the north to find his brother and retrieve the Knellblade. He carries with him an empty scabbard, bound with the runes that will purify the sword and release the souls of his parents. On his way North, he met an incel named dark father whom he recognized as a notable magic scholar and hoped that through his sphere of influence Vidar, through his pride, might reveal his knowledge and thus reveal himself. Thane has searched almost all of the Centrelis he knew and now hopes that he will find his brother skulking in the newer settlements. He joined the convoy to the new world as a simple carpenter and smith and will only use his magical and combat abilities if lives are at stake. Thane vowed he would never hold a blade again until he had reclaimed the Knellblade.
 
Vidar, having experimented with animals and binding, incrementally loses much of his humanity, opting for a bear's strength, a eagle' s speed, and a Wolf's cunning, He gradually replaced bits of himself through the binding in the pursuit of power, and would largely be unrecognizable to most people, but he will never lose the scar across his chest given to him by Thane when they last saw each other, when thane's blade pierced his chest plate. It's a reminder to him of his hatred of Thane, and his shame knowing that Thane had made the finer steel.
