Given to the Ketegado circle of druids as an infant, Rathke only knows the rumors about his parents.
 
In the Ketegado, Rathke had a harsh upbringing dedicated to protecting the people of the islands from the beasts of the wild. He learned as he escorted travelers through the harsh mountain passes and dark forests, helped hunters track their quarries, and - most importantly - teaching the Winter Guard how to deal with predators both feral and fey.
