Kurama is a young monk who has set out into the world to fulfill his right of passage and become a bhikkhu. His Ki has lead him to Otari.
Kurama grew up in a monastery after he was found and adopted by the residing monks. Upon finding him the monks believed to have found a young human. Kurama at a young age discovered it was easier to find acceptance from humans in his human form. The monks would later discover that the young child was actually a Kitsune, and Kurama would show his true form when felt he could trust the monks. Never the less, the monk's had no reservations, and felt honored they had earned the young boys trust.
Kurama remained in the monastery until the age of 24, after which, he was sent out for his rite of passage to obtain knowledge of the world abroad and prove his honor in combat. His sect believes the path to enlightenment is paved by training both the mind and the body.
Three "levels of ordination" exist for a month. A novice monk is called a samanera. This ordainment is only achieved through years of training, typically as a child, and once it is achieved one may call themselves a monk. Kurama has recently been ordained Samanera, and immediately, his next quest begins on the road to enlightenment. This title is called bhikkhu, and it can only be achieved in the world at large. Practice is easy inside of the tranquil walls of the monastery, but to maintain it in the world is testament to your training. Kurama may spend many years to become bhikkhu, or a fully ordained monk. The final level of ordainment, is not for man to decide but the essence of Ki itself. To achieve enlightenment, well this quest is to become one of the divines.
He traveled for a year and a half before arriving in Otari six months ago. This was the place he chose to settle for now, and he met Wrin. Wrin provided many opportunities for the monk to test his body. She often required a hired hand in delving in caves and other dark places to retrieve rare and ancient artifacts. Wrin, being well traveled and a scholar of these artifacts, had many lessons for Kurama to learn.
The city of Otari intrigued Kurama with it's Dawnflower Library. One of the few centers where knowledge and worship of many ideas was housed under one roof. Primarily a temple to Sarenrae, but the temple welcomes all non-evil faiths. A wide range of books and all the information a young monk, seeking to learn about the rest of world, would need to test his mental fortitude.
