Denig is a wild Shaman of his tribe, who dwell in the foothills of the Misty Mountains. At a young age, he left his marginalised tribe as they struggled for survival in the increasingly troubled Rhudaur. It was natural that a young man comfortable with the outdoors and with some understanding of the healing arts would fall in with adventurers and so it was that he took up the life of an adventurer. Unfortunate events have dogged Denig during his career as an adventurer. On one such adventure, he made a fundamental mistake and drank from a fountain that turned his skin to stone. Whilst this granted him improved his ability to withstand enemies blow, it, however, also resulted in a degree of awkwardness in social situations as most people assumed he was a small troll. Thus marginalised, except by his companions, Denig took to living in the wilderness. The second misfortune to befall Denig was on a raid into the Goblin Kingdom under the Misty Mountains. During the chaotic retreat, he fell behind his companions, who assumed he was dead and abandoned him. If it could be considered luck, the goblins thought he was a stone troll and kept him captive to work in the mines. Eventually, Denig was able to escape the mines but not before the darkness and cruelty had taken their toll on his mind.

Mental Trauma
Having spent many years dwelling in the darkness with Orcs and Goblins can break a man's spirit, especially if they think you are a runt troll. Hard work and constant trauma has unhinged Denig's moral compass. On occasions, he lapses into Orcish or is prone to dark rages. His hatred of Orcs and Goblins leaves him at risk of foolhardy actions as the red mist falls and he seeks his vengeance.
Compounding this mental trauma is the isolation he suffers due to his being unable to enter settlements without drawing attention as a result of his stone skin.
