Dain Harakhal is a dwarven spellcaster from the Atal Dwarven Nations on Talanas. The war veteran has taken to life as an adventurer and mercenary following his time fighting in the War of the Night King, during which his exploits earned him the title of Naugûl.
Dain may have been born to the ruling clan of the Atal Dwarven Nation, Frostbreak but he was a very distant cousin to its Thaynes, most recently Brigga Harakhal. Still, his father, Angdain was a respected weaponsmith in Frostbreak and thereby afforded notoriety. Ironically, Angdain was infamously suspicious of most. He thereby eschewed attention by not letting on just how sharp he was.
His progeny did not share in these qualities. Dain was incredibly bright in his own right and he made no effort to hide his intelligence. Thus he was recruited away from the family business to join the prestigious ranks of the Atal dwarf war mages. And his apprenticeship was just completed when something an unprecedented call went out for a Gathering of the Dwarven Nations.
The Gathering had been called because of the looming threat of devotees of the ancient archmage and lich, Ba'Lial conspiring to restore their master to the world of the living. The dwarves decided they needed to go to war. Dain fought with the war mages throughout the entirety of the campaign against Ba'Lial and his agents; the so-called War of the Night King.
After Ba'Lial was destroyed, the dwarves were forced to continue the fight. Dain continued fighting with his brethren for five years more. Eventually though, he grew tired of what had become pointless fighting so he pressed for his leave to return to his clan and tribe.
Dain returned home but quickly grew restless again. He had no commissions to rely upon and his father's weaponsmith trade was suffering from a plethora of the tools of war and the shortness of hands to wield them brought on by nearly a decade of savage fighting. So Dain packed his belongings and set off to find his own way in the world. He headed East and eventually made his way to the Tormvald Plateau.
Dain is still a relatively young dwarf in his early 40s. There's almost no grey in his charcoal hair but his beard is already prodigious for one so young. He stands four and a half feet in height and sports a relatively modest build. When in a fight, Dain usually stays at a distance from the up-close action and supports his comrades with his magic.
Dain also sports a ceremonial firearm, a token of his clan that he's kept in excellent working order. He also carries a couple of blades but these are only for throwing when all other options have been exhausted.
