Personal history

Esme was born in the Northern Scratch to a musical and scholarly family. Her mother died when she was very young but imbued in her a love of literature and old stories about bravery and otherworldly creatures. She and her father would read the books left to her by her mother every night. Her mother's favorite was The Charming Exploits of the Rat People of the Moon so that book was always extra special. Her father taught her how to play music, and she began writing songs inspired by the books she loved and the tales her father told her about other places. The two of them would perform in their home of Woodfall. When he became ill, she cared for him until he died. After his passing, she took his prized lute, packed her favorite book, and left her home to follow in her father's wandering footsteps and search for new adventures about which she could write original music.

Education

She learned to read and speak many languages thanks to her diverse book collection. She learned her musical skills from her father, a minstrel himsef.

Losing her mother at such a young age was very traumatic for Esme. She learned to look at all happiness as fleeting and temporary.
