The Sun, Story 2
Moon tries to steal the Sun
Rowan lowers his voice and looks skyward, inviting his listeners to imagine the heavens themselves.
"Let me tell you a story of the heavens, of two sisters, old as time, locked forever in love, rivalry, and ambition.
You know them well: Selûne, the Moonmaiden, and Shar, Lady of the Night. Sisters born at the dawn of creation, one of gentle silver light, the other of consuming darkness.
And above them both reigns Lathander, Lord of the Morning, who carries the sun across the sky, his radiant chariot blazing with new hope each day."
Rowan pauses, letting the divine balance settle into his listeners' minds.
"But even gods may tempt fate.
You see, both sisters desired the Sun , though for very different reasons.
Selûne longed to soften its fierce light, to draw a portion of its brilliance into the quiet silver of her nights, offering endless twilight where none would fear either blinding heat or deep darkness.
But Shar… Shar desired the Sun for no such mercy. She sought to steal its flame entirely, to extinguish its light forever and fold all of creation into her perfect void.
And so, though enemies, they struck a dangerous bargain. Together they reached for the Sun , to steal it from Lathander’s chariot and pull it into their own keeping."
Rowan’s hand rises to mimic the sun in the sky, his fingers weaving around it.
"When you see the moon cross before the Sun , when the day turns to unnatural night , that is when the sisters make their move.
Selûne wraps it in her silver cloak; Shar smothers it in her shadow. The world falls into silence beneath their theft. Even Lathander cannot stop them in that moment , for while his strength rules the sky, their combined power can briefly overpower his grasp."
Rowan leans forward slightly, voice lower.
"But their alliance always crumbles.
Selûne refuses to let Shar extinguish the light she only wished to temper.
Shar refuses to share what she would rather consume.
And so , as always , their quarrel reignites, their unity fractures, and Lathander’s Sun breaks free once more, blazing triumphantly across the heavens."
Rowan smiles, tapping his temple, as always.
"That, my friends, is why eclipses pass , brief moments when ancient rivalries overshadow the world, but cannot hold it for long. And Lathander, Lord of the Morning, rises once again, as he always has."
