Appearance
Physical Description
Wearing tailored studded leather, Galahad's body features rippling muscles in a lean frame that carries both power and agility.
Facial Features
While sporting a goatee and facial hair down the jawline, Galahad also possesses dichromatic eyes: a blue right eye and a green left eye. Upon closer inspection, his eyes also possess vertical slit pupils, very similar to that of a reptile or dragon.
Identifying Characteristics
Galahad has 4 major scars: his right eye, his left eyebrow, left cheek, and right side of his mouth. Each scar has a story that he does not mind sharing in the hopes it prevents similar tragedies befalling others.
Apparel & Accessories
In addition, it can be seen that Galahad carries two different Mistwalker sigils - one along his neck and the other around the handle of his staff. They are from his mentors that helped him leave his town as well as the one that trained him in how to survive the wilds.
Mentality
Personal history
Celeste was an aasimar-only village that prided themselves on being blessed with safe harbor and the ability to survive in this new world far easier than the "others." While the voracity of these claims are dubious at best, this sense of pride and ego caused them to look quite poorly onto the Mist Walkers that wandered into their town to perform services and trade.
Story
While the rest of the town felt this way and were wary of those that were doomed and possibly cursed to roam the land, Galahad was different. He saw within them a strength and sharpness that he could not recognize within his fellow villagers. He began to idolize these people and would train his body and to what he could to hear the stories of these people to understand what was happening outside his gilded cage. Even from the young age of 8, Galahad could never stomach being raised like cattle to the mist, hiding behind these walls and a "candle" until they died in their sleep or the mist somehow took him. He would run around the inside of the village and performed his daily ritual of physical training and meditation - a trick he picked up from a Mistwalker that advised him, "Do all the pushups and laps you want; a strong body may protect you from horrors of the Mist, but it'll be your mind that protects you from its terror."
Scars
The First Scar
At the age of 14, Galahad was in the middle of his meditation under a tree near the gate when one of the most significant moments in his life would take place. He recalls a woman servant of some kind of traveling merchants ran from the house of a village elder disheveled out of the village in a panic and didn't seem to realize she was too close to the mist. Recklessly, Galahad chased after her after grabbing the town's extra candle to try to pull her back and dove into the mist after her. A minute into the mist he seemingly found her on the ground crying and he tried to quickly console her to pull her out of the mist. When he approached, she stood up awkwardly, like a marionette having her strings pulled taught into the air. With one swift movement, she spun 180 degrees with her hand in a manner that she would slap him but he was not ready for the long nails and warped hands clawing his face, drawing blood and knocking him to the ground. When he looked at her face, the blood-red eyes, the broken nose that was bent almost 60 degrees, a drool and blood filled mouth that didn't swallow or spit all told him he had been failed: she had either succumbed to the mist herself and was taken or he fell for Mist's trap with this doppelganger. While he was about to succumb to this despair, fate is not always so cruel. Behind him was his childhood friend, Darion Meyer, charging from behind with a large branch knocking the unaware mist creature back, momentarily stunning it. He turned and saw his mother calling the spirits around her to keep the pitiful soul at bay until they could return safely. When he entered the sunlight, he saw smoke rising from his cheek momentarily, seeing now he had a nasty cut on his cheek that his mother healed to ensure no infection though a scar would remain. He looked to Darion, who admitted to seeing him run off into the mist in a panic and got his mother to save him. While Darion looked apologizing for taking matters into his own hands, Galahad knew he had found a friend he could rely on.
Galahad never shared the truth of why he went into the Mist that day and asked Darion to do the same. However, Mord Brightweave, son of the village elder Deitre Brightweave, and his companions never let Galahad get a day of rest. While he was protected to a degree due to him being one of the children being raised as the next shaman, that did not stop them from brutal "sparring" sessions and brutal condemnations in public from failing impossible tasks. This treatment never broke Galahad however. While every beating that they called a spar would be more brutal than the last and every humiliation tore at his mental health, Darion was a good friend at his side that helped make those days bearable.
The Second Scar
At age 16, the abuse when too far. There was a girl, Eunice, he was close to as they studied together. She was always quick to comfort him after the spars and they would study often together in their spiritual classes. They were very close. One day, she ran up to him in tears and said that her little sister chased after something in the Mist and begged Galahad to go with her to rescue her. Galahad agreed without question and followed her into the mist after asking Darion to join, which seemed to distress Eunice. While they were silent and careful not to disturb the Mist as Eunice carried the candle, Galahad inadvertently stepped on a bear trap latching onto his leg and causing him to scream out in pain and fear. The Mist awoke as Galahad asked Eunice and Darion to help him get free before it was too late. However, she backed away and simply apologized; that they threatened her family with blackmail to exile them if she didn't do this. Realizing it was a trap, Galahad told Darion to leave him and get to safety and that it was over for him. When Darion refused, he even threatened to yell louder to force his hand. Unperturbed, Darion remained steadfast and tried to help pull Galahad's leg out from the trap but to no avail. Realizing the folly, together prepared to defend themselves from the upcoming onslaught.
The creatures started to form and. The first creature approached them but was dispatched with their teamwork. However, the sounds stopped and he looked ahead. Something... greater was coming. The 3 mist creatures that spawned couldn't move, stuck in the pull of a larger mass forming further back. The aura being exuded was black and evil that made Galahad's heart tremble in fear. His limbs lost strength and he fell to his knees, head down, waiting for the inevitable as fear took over. However something wet and warm hit his face. It took a second for to realize something was licking him. He opened his eyes and saw a feline licking his face and put its paws on his shoulders, looking at him in the eyes. With clear eyes that neither judged his fear or compelled him into action, Galahad could see his reflection as plain as day. And it was in that moment that Galahad realized something so simple: doing nothing was not an option. It didn't matter what it was, but he must live. The moment he gives up is the true moment the Mist wins. As long as his spirit does not yield, there is a chance he can help those that come after him overcome the trials. The small cat seemingly understood the change in expression in Galahad and turned his back to him, facing the now fully formed humanoid creature pulling a large axe from the ground. It was in this moment that Galahad could feel a connection to something far stronger than anything he could ever fathom to the point that even thinking about focusing on it would break him. Utilizing the ambient energy that he connected to, he felt strength surging through his body and he pulled the jaws of the trap apart just as the Mist Monster raise the horrible Axe and bring it down, through the spear he brought and slashing his right eye. Without time to think, he grabbed the cub that pulled him out of his dark spiral and ran for the town with Darion. The relationship between him and Eunice was effectively shattered as Galahad could never trust her again, but his friendship with Darion and the rest of his peers in his Spirituality class helped fill that hole.
The Third Scar
At age 17, the state of affairs between Galahad Ithildin and Mord Brightweave has been devolving into a state of cruelty and brutality over the past 6 months. However, with the support of Darion and his parents, the escalating violence Mord inflicted upon him was barely tolerable, though untenable in the long run. On the evening of Eunice's birthday, the final conflict between Galahad and Mord would finally surface. While Galahad was enjoying a game of rugby with his friends, the game was interrupted by a loud scream coming from the birthday party he chose not to attend. Concerned nonetheless, Gahalad left the game to investigate. When he arrived, he found the party destroyed: men were unconscious, women were fleeing, and Eunice was on her knees in tears as Mord and his followers laughing enjoying the food and opening the presents. Mocking and humiliating her while claiming he was taking just enough to cover the taxes he was owed as the next leader of this village, he proceeded to her with a vicious and grotesque smile on his face. He knelt to her level and told her to finish this party inside to receive his gift. Too utterly terrified to even scream, Eunice was unable to put any strength in her legs and just lay there. Frustrated, Mord slapped her to the ground and grabbed her by the hair, dragging her into her own house to the horror of everyone around.
Galahad was incensed, seeing in real time a repeat of the event that caused him to face the ire of this inhuman wretch. Embracing the beast within him, he grabbed the broken chair leg and charged Mord without regard to the aftermath of this decision. He beat the first unsuspecting henchman from behind before they took notice and knocked him out before dealing with the second. The third and final good tried to get behind him and use the numbers, but forgot about Maximus waiting in the periphery. With the three of them finished in short order, Mord had already started to flee to the gate having thrown Eunice to the ground to make his escape. However, while it was possible for Mord to have made it safely had he kept running ahead, curiosity got the better of him and he looked back. That momentary distraction was all that was needed for him to trip over some of the rubble he and his men created. In an instant, Galahad was on top of him pummeling him. Raining blow after blow on him; when he tried to protect his face he'd go for the sternum to knock the wind out of him. After what felt like ages and Mord's face swollen and bruised and missing teeth, Galahad brought his hands to the air and clenched one fist in his other hand and was prepared to bring it down on the man that has tormented not just himself, but everyone around him. Right as he brought his fist down, he felt something catch his fists: Darion held back the swing by holding onto his wrists. While Galahad knew that Darion felt the same he did, Darion just shook his head and said "enough." Understanding that this is not the right way to go about it, Galahad sighed a long breath, expelling all of the emotions within himself until he was drained and got off of Mord to let Darion take him to get treated. Galahad proceeded to go to the guard and explain the situation and shared the details of the skeletons he knew Mord hid in his closet in order to finally excise this cancer from his beloved town.
The Fourth Scar
At age 18, life had improved greatly after he had come clean and aired all of the secrets he had let fester. Mord and his men were condemned after others like Galahad came forward to share their stories. While his father, Deitre, used much of his power to prevent his only son from being expelled into the mist for 'crimes against the town,' it ultimately led to his removal from the Council of Elders that operated the town. Mord continued to curse Galahad for destroying the position of his family and refused to take responsibility to the end, while Galahad and Darion celebrated their birthdays into adulthood. Eunice and Galahad bonded again and were stronger for the experiences they shared. Eunice for her birthday became the Shaman of the village while Galahad and Darion trained and learned what they could so they could protect others. At least, that was supposed to be the plan. It started during the introduction of a religious transport of Sarenrae clergyman. While they were performing their missionary duties to people along the street and in homes, nothing was amiss until the dark hours of the night when several of the missionaries failed to return to their lodging. Galahad, Darion, and several of the young guardsmen patrolled the night to search for them, but the bias of Galahad and his brother proved correct as they sought after the whereabouts of Mord. To their horror, Mord had grievously tortured the captured victims in the basement of his family's home; preparing for some kind of dark ritual that Mord admitted in his disturbed monologue on how he was going to curse them and their families and their bloodlines for everything they've done to him.
The guards closed in expecting this to go like always: a quick surrender without much more chaos. They were wrong. Mord had gotten far stronger; unholy energy flooded from his pores as he blasted the guards back and overwhelmed all those around him. Even his constant cohorts were stronger, though not to the same degree. They were made into something more... monstrous. Pale skin, bloodshot eyes, blood dripping from their ears, nose, mouth, and eyes as they seemed to howl in rage and pain and went wild. It was carnage and none of us could withstand their power. Even Maximus was wounded from a slash as he protected Darion. When it seemed they would all die here, the clergymen rushed in to aid us and repelled the unholy energy. After emergency healing and their sealing magic, Mord was finally able to be captured and subdued. They had crossed the line and not just for this village, but for the Sarenrae Church too for he had forbidden black magic swirling around him and they needed to know from where he received such knowledge. It was during this proclamation that Galahad witness something he rarely saw: Darion verbalize a desire of his own to go with the church. He's always supported Galahad but never asked for help himself or shared a hard desire before. But now he seemed compelled to follow the clergy and learn from them; there was a light and zeal in his eyes he's not seen before and Galahad would not leave him alone. Saying his goodbyes to his family and friends including Eunice, Galahad left his home before he turned 19 with two friends he'd trust his life with.
