There are definitely places Bartleby can't show his face these days, but that's alright. He's come back from worse- hell, he came from worse. It's a big universe, and there's always going to be room for a man with a nice suit and a criminal mind.

Appearance
Physical Description
A well-cut suit hides a lot of physical shortcomings, but easy station living has left him with a bit of a paunch.
Facial Features
He usually keeps his facial hair groomed, but that's fallen away on such a long, claustrophobic voyage. No point putting on a show with the rest of the crew- he'll just pretty up before they next make port.
Physical quirks
He's a bit oily. It's an unfortunate trait he can't do much about.
Apparel & Accessories
Always well-dressed in public, in private he'll generally wear something nondescript and easy to maneuver in zero-G.
Specialized Equipment
There's a fancy suit of power armor in his walk-in closet, with the military insignia and serial numbers filed off. It must have cost a fortune on the black market, unless he came by it some other way...
Special abilities
Hell of a talker.

Personal history
Dumped at an overflowing orphanage on a dreary colony world, Bartleby never knew his parents, and his first name was generated by the orphanage's computer. His only real role model growing up was a fictional merchant captain and smuggler in an ancient infotainment series, Captain Gribbens. He was evicted from the orphanage on his thirteenth birthday, no longer a ward of the state, and found work in the spaceport running packages and scrapping ships. At nineteen, he'd saved up enough to escape the gravity well and take a menial position on board a bustling station in orbit.
Obsessed with profit and with a fine mind for backstabbing and subterfuge, Bartleby (now having given himself the last name Gribbens) quickly rose through the ranks. By twenty-five, he was an expedition manager at a small merchant outfit shuttling scrap through the Gates. By twenty-eight, with his help, the firm was chartering more than thirty expeditions a year and bidding on Imperial contracts.
That was, of course, the point that Bartleby - impatient at the conservative nature of his employers - decided to take a calculated risk on an Imperial contract. He subcontracted out to a low-cost captain who'd served well in the past, and pocketed the extra credits. His disastrous mistake left three Imperial officers dead in the vacuum of space, several million credits-worth of equipment destroyed, and a price on his head. Forced to flee or face interrogation and execution, he slipped through the nearest Gate and vanished into the vast and uncaring universe.
Education
Educated by low-quality augmented reality cartoons and Imperial propaganda as a child, no formal education beyond that.
Employment
Former expedition manager at Sarcos Incorporated, a scrap-mining and shipping operation.
Failures & Embarrassments
Cut corners on a very important Imperial contract and screwed up the upwards trajectory of his life, making him a fugitive and leading to several deaths.
Mental Trauma
Still haunted by nightmares of his last meeting with the Imperial officers he sent to their slow deaths in the vacuum of space.
Intellectual Characteristics
Skilled at deception and intergalactic trade & finance.
