Born in
Ithilril, Aegnor Elensar was the product of the raids conducted against their small island nation. His mother, one of the native moon-elves, was, as he was told, savagely attacked by a member of one of the orc raiding parties. Most women of the island took their own lives when dealt this hand of fate. However, his mother chose to carry her offspring to term. Being that this was abnormal in their society, she received little aid during the pregnancy and was ostracized from the city.
In the end she passed during childbirth, leaving the newborn son with nobody to look after him, and his name as the last words to leave her lips, Aegnor. Days after his birth, as he was in the care of the midwife, an elven knight arrived to claim the unwanted boy as his ward. The knight was his maternal great-uncle,
Elendir, of the
Order of the Crecscent Blade. The Order were a branch sect of
The Church of Eidolon and the high-protectors of
Ithilril.. Small in numbers, the Order did all they could to stave off the attacks against their city and towns across their island. Raised as a ward and squire to his great-uncle, Aegnor knew only the ways and teachings of the Order, and aligned himself strongly with the teachings of the Church of Eidolon.
When Aegnor came of age and into his own, he swore himself to the Order and to his Goddess. After years serving as a holy knight and protector of the people of Ithilril, he learned of a dark secret while performing clerical duties in the capital. The Order had knowingly diverted the raiders toward the city boroughs where his mother lived, sacrificing the people of that quarter in order to shore up defenses in the rest of the city and around the palace. Feeling the sting of betrayal to all he was taught to uphold, he confronted his great-uncle, now the Grandmaster of the Order.
Elendir, the man who had raised him, admitted to knowing all along of the decision that was made those decades ago to sacrifice the safety of that city quarter, rather than risk spreading the defenders to protect everyone. Enraged, Aegnor attempted to duel his former guardian then and there. However, due to the difference in skill and experience he stood no chance against him. Rather than strike him down for his actions, Elendir offered to forgive and forget what he saw as the actions of a child, on the condition that the subject was never brought up again.
Unable to cope with the thought of continuing life as a member of the Order of the Crescent Blade, knowing they were willing to sacrifice innocents to any degree, Aegnor laid down his trappings as a member of the Order. In the days after his struggle against his great-uncle, he prepared himself to set off from the island he had called home. Taking only a small pack of personal belongings and his weapons, he set out to become a questor knight or knight errant. He now travels the mainland in search of some act or feat that he believes will cleanse he, his former order, and his past of the shame he feels stained with.
