Zaui was born as one of a pair of twins into the legendary "Grimmwinter" tribe. Zaui's Tribe was renowned within their territory for being one of the most capable and vicious group of Goliath barbarians within the three great mountain ranges which they called home. Their power and tenacity was unmatched against any foe they faced for decades and during the peak of their strength, actively searched for foes to expand their vast territory.
Zaui grew up in this environment and, as all Young Goliaths do, revelled in the bloodshed. However, around the time he entered young adulthood, the tone had changed within the tribe. Due to their unrivalled strength they grew tired of warfare and over the years turned more to maintaining order and developing their culture towards a sustainable way of life within their territories.
Zaui and his Twin brother, Maui, did not share this new mindset. they actively sought out fights, both within the community and as much as they could outside of it to satiate their desire for bloodshed however most within the tribe either would not fight or simply weren't a challenge and outsiders would not challenge any that bore the Grimmwinter name, so after much deliberation Zaui and Maui decided they would leave their tribe in search of glorious combat and to enhance their already formidable strength.
A few months however into the Brothers Grimm's adventure, they hit trouble. After clearing out a coven of vampires they happened upon, they found a strange necklace when searching through the spoils. Maui put it on as a joke that he had won the trophy, which Zaui thought ironic because he had certainly thought he would suit it much better, and after a short tussle to determine the true victor, the necklace was knocked and Maui suddenly disappeared.
Upon the disappearance of his bother, Zaui made haste back to the tribe they grew up in to see if they had any information about the mysterious circumstances surrounding his brothers disappearance. when he returns to the clans territory a group on hunters getting close the clans location. Zaui being the protector that he is he to do all he could to remove any potential threat in the area. Rage fueled his actions, he fought the hunters, killing a few members of the group, but not lucky enough to dispatch the entire group, Zaui unfortunately gets downed.
Awakened by voices and unable to move, eyes slightly open to view that of a group of Dwarves and a few old tribe members surrounding him. Blacking out and reawakening a few more times in different locations, once in a giant open cavern, covered in lights, ores and dwarven architecture, then back in the home camp with his memory in pieces but still remembering faces of the ones he loves and respects, but asked about the only other person in life he really cares about, his own brother, disappearing from right in front of him, he knew that he needed to find Maui.
Unknown to Zaui is the alterations to him by the dwarves and the magic that seals it from anyone's eye, he was no longer Goliath, but now one forged of dwarven metal, a construct known as Forged Soul, a repayment from (Dwavern clan name), a long alliance with the dwarves and that the parents of Zaui and Maui still had to collect on. The clan know the fury of Maui with out his brother would cause anything within his sight to become a target, as the blind rage would consume his mind and the rage would not be satisfied until his brother returns or until he becomes a living god. The magic from a powerful mage would keep Maui from knowing the real truth about Zaui's demise and to keep Zaui's mind intact to find his brother again.
Speaking to the Shamans of the tribe about the events of Maui's disappearance and the description of the necklace he found, The shamans explain that the scouting party that found Zaui, spoke about the same kind of neckless and happenings to the group near to where he was found also just disappeared in to thin air. Unsure about what kind of power the necklaces held or where they could have gone to, they advise Zaui to go in search of the power of these potential artifact and to reunite with his brother and rebecome the defender to his brother's offensive nature.
After many months of traveling from settlement to settlement, doing quests to survive the endeavor of finding His brother Maui the word "Nexus" had cropped up a few times. In the process of his journey Zaui had gained a potent reputation for his battle prowess and was approached by an emissary of the Nexus to do work for them.
After doing the emissary's master's request, Zaui leaves the employ of the bounty giver and sets out to find Maui in the Nexus, asking around to his location or someone matching the description of him/thyself, which leads to Maui find Zaui in a tavern.
