The Battle of Epsilon Naught

It was a lovely day in the coastal town of [Port Joryev]. Archelon spent the morning and mid-afternoon busily selling his fresh-caught fish to any and every fortunate passerby with whom he happened to make eye contact. As he was wrapping up his fish stall for the evening, a rowdy gang of foul-smelling creatures passed nearby. They were making quite a commotion, talking too fast, and possibly in uncommon languages, such that Archelon was uncertain of what was being said (not that he worried about such things).
 
Suddenly there was a bright flash of light, and Archelon found himself no longer where he was. Beneath his feet were dark grey stones, paving the courtyard of a large stone castle, far different from the packed-dirt street of the Joryev Market. The rowdy strangers--a large Minotaur, a tentacle-bearded seaman, and small man with a most stern countenance. They spoke in hushed tones, plotting how to sneak into and then retreat from the looming castle. Uncertain of the goal, but ready and willing to help his fellow citizens (no matter how strange they might smell), Archelon listens for cues and determines that he can be sneakiest under water. Diving into the river that has also appeared with the new scenery, Archelon immediately feels more relaxed. In his native element, concerns such as where and why and how do not press so intensely upon his mind. As a school of fish swims past him, he thrusts out his spear in the well-practiced ways of his childhood and quickly catches four of them.
 
Archelon then hears a signal; perhaps one to attack? He swims upstream towards the castle, exits the water, and comes upon a lady giant and her companion, guarding a bridge. It seems Archelon has surfaced on the wrong side of the river. The guards are concerned about Archelon's presence, and they make vague threats toward him, but Archelon knows how to soothe the disgruntled soul of a hard-working night-guard. He shows them his wares, four fresh fish, and sells one to each of them, appeasing their minds and their stomachs in one smooth act.
 
A noisy fumbling and worried shout nearer to the castle catches all three of their attentions, and the guards run off to attend their lord's property. Archelon follows after them, because he suddenly remembers that he is here with a rowdy gang, and they are attempting to sneak into the castle.
 
A speedy battle ensues, with only a few guards finding the party before they get knocked unconscious. Archelon finds himself racing up and then back down the castle stairs, marveling at his new companions' many magical and non-magical skills. As the four of them reconvene at the outset of the castle, a bright light flashes once again, and Archelon finds that they have suddenly returned to Port Joryev.
 
This was the beginning of Archelon's journey into piracy.
