Darth Malgus was an exceptionally talented duelist and specialized in using rage and brute strength to defeat his opponents. Aside from his overwhelming physical strength, which served him well not only in lightsaber duels but also in hand to hand combat, Malgus also often performed acrobatics to increase his effectiveness in lightsaber combat. His speed was such that a normal human found it difficult to watch his movements in his duels.[3]

A ferocious Sith Warrior with a terrifying reputation,[1] Darth Malgus relished engaging in combat on the front line.[14] He was personally responsible for the deaths of several highly skilled Jedi Masters. During the retaking of Korriban, he employed Jar'Kai to kill the Jedi Battlemaster Kao Cen Darach despite the latter's proficiency in the same fighting style and victory over Malgus's Master, Darth Vindican. Malgus's strength, rage, and clear focus gave him an advantage and allowed him to swiftly deprive Kao of one of his lightsabers and finally slay the Jedi Master.[7] Years later, during the Sacking of Coruscant, Malgus managed to impale Jedi Master Ven Zallow in a short but ferocious duel.[4] Zallow was often regarded as his most famous kill.[1]

Darth Malgus utilized a variety of Force powers during the Sacking of Coruscant to defeat many Jedi and Republic soldiers who stood in his path, including saber throw, Force push, choke, jump, speed and lightning. Malgus used his emotions — such as anger and distaste of others — to fuel his power of the dark side. Malgus demonstrated the skill and power to handle multiple opponents simultaneously without much effort.[4]
In one instance, Malgus unleashed a powerful blast of Force lightning and killed 3 Jedi with it. Malgus himself could tolerate Force lightning attacks. During his duel with Lord Adraas, Malgus strode through the barrage of the Force lightning from his opponent using his lightsaber and fingers as conduit, and redirected it back towards his opponent to knock him off his feet.[3] He perfected his application of Force lightning to a degree from which he could unleash a Force Maelstrom.[16] During the Battle of Ilum, he demonstrated an application of tutaminis when fired at by either the Voidhound, Meteor, Hunter or Cipher Nine, absorbing the blasterfire with one hand.[6]
Malgus also performed Force screams to make his hatred apparent to his opponents as well as destroy enemy fighters within his range.[3][16] During his raid of the Jedi Temple, Malgus unleashed power with an expression of his rage which shattered a nearby column of wall and send a rain of stone shards through the room when his friend Eleena Daru was struck down by his most powerful opponent in the region; Zallow.[3][4] Malgus used this ability once again during his raid of the resting place of Adraas, making his extreme hatred for him clearly visible by leaving a trail of destruction around him with it during his advance towards his powerful Sith rival.[3]
Malgus often used Force speed to augment his physical movements.[7] When Malgus engaged Jedi Knight Aryn Leener in a duel, an observer attempted to watch them but could not properly see their movements because of their immense speed. Later on, Malgus used this ability once again while he was rushing towards the hangar in a Spaceport to rescue Daru from a threat, leaving the troops accompanying him far behind.[3]

Being strong in the Force, Malgus was proficient in the applications of telekinesis. Malgus could counter-push his opponents in the mid-air while they would jump towards him to knock them out in the process.[4] During the duel with Aryn, Malgus demonstrated the ability to hurl objects as missiles towards his opponent.[3] Malgus could also perform Force grip and Force crush.[3][4]
On Alderaan, a Zabrak Jedi used the Force to collapse two buildings on Malgus in an attempt to kill him. Malgus stood under the mountain of rubble composed of building parts made of duracrete and steel preventing it from crushing him beneath with the Force. Malgus controlled his anger and sharpened his power. He blew the rubble up and away from him, sending it crashing in adjacent buildings.[10]
Malgus also performed Force wave when he attempted to disperse a large crowd gathered outside a Medical Facility in Coruscant to check on Daru. The blast shoved everything away from him in all directions, and bodies slammed in to each other, walls, and windows. The nearby Transport lurched, and all the doors of the Medical Facility broke loose and fell to the ground.[3]
On Alderaan, Malgus also faced Jedi Master Satele Shan and her allies in single combat and tolerated heavy firepower and Force powers from his opponents which shattered large objects around him.[14] He was seriously injured but he survived and felt no pain.[10]
Malgus could also hide his presence in the Force.[3] Interestingly, a Jedi in Alderaan used this ability to suppress his Force signature when he planned to ambush Malgus but it was not effective against him. Malgus still managed to sense his presence and foiled his plans.[10]

Mentality

Personal history

The rediscovery of Dromund Kaas began in the aftermath of the Great Hyperspace War, when the Sith Lord Vitiate ordered his researchers and historians to locate a safe haven for the people of the shattered Empire. Once they succeeded in rediscovering Dromund Kaas' location, Vitiate summoned all of the remaining Sith Lords to his homeworld of Nathema and mentally enslaved them, using their strength to perform a dark side ritual that stripped the life from Nathema and made him immortal. Vitiate then gathered the remaining people of the Sith Empire and embarked on a twenty-year wandering journey that finally ended[5] in 4980 BBY[16] with the "rediscovery" of Dromund Kaas thanks to Vitiate's advice.[5]
Upon arriving on the surface of Dromund Kaas, Vitiate declared a reconstituted Empire with himself at the head that would one day return and take revenge upon the Republic. Under the guidance of the newly-created Dark Council,[15] a group of twelve Dark Lords of the Sith who each assumed leadership over an aspect of the Empire,[16] the new Empire gradually tamed their new homeworld and built their strength. Odile Vaiken, the Human who founded the new Imperial Military, led a military campaign into the wild jungle in order to clear the wilderness and make way for the Empire's capital, Kaas City. Vaiken himself slew a terentatek on the future site of the Imperial Citadel,[15] the building that would house the headquarters of the Sith Order and the Empire's Ministries of War, Intelligence, and Logistics.[19] From Dromund Kaas, the Empire gradually expanded their domain.

Around 3960 BBY, after defeating the Mandalorians at Malachor V, the Jedi Revan and Malak discovered Dromund Kaas. They confronted the Sith Emperor, but were defeated and corrupted to the dark side, becoming Darth Revan and Darth Malak. Revan was redeemed by the Jedi and slew Malak in the ensuing Jedi Civil War. In 3954 BBY Revan, his memory wiped, found his way to the Emperor's homeworld of Nathema, where he was captured by the Dark Councilor Darth Nyriss and the Sith Lord Scourge. Nyriss and Scourge were part of a conspiracy against the Emperor, and so Nyriss imprisoned Revan in her own estate on Dromund Kaas, with the Emperor unaware that he had returned. Four years later, Revan's protege Meetra Surik went in search of Revan and found Dromund Kaas. She rescued Revan, and they allied with Scourge. The three of them attacked the Emperor, but Scourge had a vision which prompted him to betray the Jedi. Scourge killed Surik, and Revan was captured by the Emperor. The Emperor purged the Dark Council to eliminate the conspiracy.[5]
Three hundred years later, the Empire revealed itself and attacked the Republic in the Great Galactic War, which ended in 3653 BBY with the Treaty of Coruscant. In the ensuing Cold War, Dromund Kaas was the center of several crises confronting the Empire. Around 3643 BBY, a large slave rebellion was secretly instigated by the Sith Lord Darth Baras. The Sith Lord Grathan declared himself the thirteenth Dark Council member and led a revolt against the Dark Council. Darth Baras sent his apprentice, the future Empire's Wrath, to assassinate Grathan's son Beelzlit.[6]
A Sith apprentice called Kallig discovered their ancient heritage in the Dark Temple when they encountered Aloysius Kallig, their ancestor. A Great Hunt also began around this time, and an upstart bounty hunter collected bounties on Dromund Kaas to enter. After winning the Hunt, that bounty hunter returned to Dromund Kaas to kill a Sithspawn which was attacking a Mandalorian camp. Finally, a group of terrorists led by The Eagle, and secretly backed by Dark Council member Darth Jadus, began attacking the Empire on Dromund Kaas. Imperial Intelligence assigned its newest agent Cipher Nine to deal with the terrorists. There was also a cult known as the Order of Revan, which worshiped Revan. An agent of the Empire infiltrated the cult and exposed its leader Tari Darkspanner.[6]
In 3641 BBY a new open conflict, known as the Galactic War, eventually started between the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic.[6]
