The Sixty Third Letter

Am, I'm really sorry I haven't written in a while, I've had the four seasons at once with the council, none of what I've said to them is taking us anywhere, well it's taking us everywhere really but nowhere worthwhile. It's been nothing but dense wood and the occasional stream for so, so long I can hardly remember what open sky looks like. People have just accepted that this is how we live now. I'm sorry, I've told you all this before.
 
Polyanthus turned fifty, three days ago. We celebrated as much as we could and it made me think of you, and of our half-centenary parties, I still remember finally seeing you embody spring. It was so different, no sweetbreads, none of the normal rites, nobody even dressed up like we did because nobody could. He doesn't even know what he's missing damn it!
 
Brenig was right, wasn't he? All those years ago. Those soldiers destroyed our home and our way of life and we just let them. I just let them.m What could I do about it now? What should I about it now? I'm not sure I'd be able to even find them, let alone bring them to justice.
 
If you were here you'd tell me to go and find them, I know you would. When you were here I'd probably have listened to you, we'd have called it an adventure and made a joke about it. My family would worry, but then I suppose they would have back then too. And I'd miss them. But trudging through seemingly endless forest hopelessly searching for greener pastures isn't helping anyone.
 
You'll come with me won't you, if I go? I need some company. Why am I even asking that? That was always your job, taking us on adventures, getting us into trouble. It's not like you could say no anyway, I'm sorry for that.
