Having been burdened by his noble and magical lineage since birth, Floris has great expectations placed upon him. His sheltered life in Saint Lorian's monastery has left him ill-prepared for the cruel outside world.
Floris, son of Jean-Girard and Michelle la Roche has great expectation placed upon him. The La Roche family has been blessed by Merridene and can trace it's origins all the way back to the saint Lorian the Martyr. Due to this, magic runs deep: with the family's bloodline sprinkled with varying degrees of magical talent and ability. Throughout generations these Blessed Children have always brought honor to the family name. It became quickly apparent that Floris was one of these prodigies, and a such great things were expected of him.
Even though Floris was only the third born child, as a nobleman there were still many duties he was expected to attend to. He was taught the diplomatic ways, world history, geography, proper manners, and the languages of Kenner and Qandiri. And the age of eight years old, as is the custom for Blessed Children, he was send away to Saint Lorian's monastery. Which was in fact founded by Constatine La Roche precisely to educate children blessed with magical abilities.
During his time at the temple, he was taught to harness and control the tumultuous magical energies swirling within him, tempering the chaos into a focused power: to be used for healing, self-defense, but never unnecessary harm. His his studies weren't limited to magic of course; he would also learn Merridene, the other major religions, and the application of medicine
Living a sheltered life within the monastery and the confines of the family castle, however, he developed a skewed perception of the outside world. Never once having experienced poverty, famine or any genuine hardship whatsoever, he grew up with a compassionate heart but harbored unrealistic expectations of the world beyond the monastery walls
The La Roche family has an unbroken tradition of faithful service to both their lieges and subjects. Even though they are known as stubborn, staunch traditionalists, they are also know as loyal, charitable and fair. With the expectation that he would uphold the family name, Floris was send of for his first diplomatic assignment; to represent his family at a ball in Stottburg. However, his sheltered life might have left him ill-prepared for what he would encounter on the road.
