Personal history
After the High Elven Council of the Enlightened found that Reybella had relations with a human they forbade the relationship, the High Elves of her village saw themselves better than all other creatures. Reybella, being in love, continued to see Idris and when she became pregnant, which angered the High Council. As punishment Reybella was banished from the High Elven community to live on the outskirts of the Donnadosa Forest, as the Council of the Enlightened didn’t want a dirty bloodied abomination to mix with the rest of the community. The West of the Donnadosa Forest is where the High Council called home. Reybella left the village disgraced, with what little she had, babe in arms. Forbidden to ever enter the village again, Clove included.
Idris built a wooden house for the three of them to live at the edge of the Donnadosa Forest on the cusp of where Reybella had been exiled, so that Reybella could still feel the Druidic power that she had learnt in the Forest, and feel her ancestry.
Reybella began to go on adventures to earn coin and buy them the things that they needed to survive. Idris was tasked to raise Clove while Reybella was away. Which he did to the best of his ability, once Clove was asleep for the night he would carve creatures out of the wood that he would collect from the forest and on the weekends he would take them to the human Market in East Cegail, the closest human town (and Idris’s hometown), which was a day’s walk from the edge of the Donnadosa Forest.
With the coin that both Reybella and Idris earned from their ventures, they were able to buy books to give Clove a half decent education as she was not able to attend the school within the Council of the Enlightened. Reybella taught Clove Druidic and Elven, her father taught her the common tongue. Clove had always shown a natural gift for Druidcraft so Reybella would take her daughter to the Forest to teach Clove all she knew. A strong sense of calm would wash over her whenever she exploded in the forest with her mother in her lessons.
The only friends she had were ones she made in the forest by her home. Clove would spend her days with the woodland beasts and speaking to the trees and plants.
It took a long time for Clove to understand why she was only allowed in her fathers village, as she longed to see her mothers village deep in the Forest, after hearing her mother talk about it for years. Her parents finally explained why she was never allowed to visit the other half of her heritage.
As Clove grew her mother and father would tell her story’s from their own home lands, and she would still go to the market in East Cegail with her father on weekends, but after seeing their Winters Festival in her 14th year she would stop going with her father. Seeing the community come together to celebrate caused her to have pain in her chest, knowing that she would never fully belong in either society, even if she was allowed back to live amongst her Elven peoples.
Clove didn’t have a feeling of community like her fathers people did, with half of her Heritage locked forever.
On Clove’s 18th name day she entered her mothers village and demanded an audience with the Council of the Enlightened. At first they refused to see her, until she barged into their chambers and demanded to be heard by the High Council using her Druidcraft she managed to fend off the guards long enough that the Council decided to hear her out. She requested that she would be allowed to rejoin the village as is her birthright. The High Council laughed in her face and told her, ‘Someone like you will never be allowed into this place. You of dirty blood.’ This angered Clove, with clenched fists she asked what she would have to do to be allowed access.
Myrin Bileth, the head of the High Council of the Enlightened announced that she will only be allowed access to the Village once she has defeated him in combat. In her haste to prove herself she challenged Myrin there and then. The challenge ended quickly as Myrin was hundreds of years older than Clove and much more experience than her. Myrin welcomed to let her try again when she felt like she could face him in a real challenge.
That's when Clove decided that was going to train as hard as she could so she could prove to the High Council that she could walk side by side with them.
Education
That’s when Clove enrolled at Meadrora, The High Institute of Druidcraft. The place her mother perfected her craft, scared she would be turned away after her exile, Clove changed her name from Clove Zumren to Clove Thunderspear, as she was born during the worst thunderstorm for 100 years.
Clove would spend her time either in the training grounds working on her archery and working with her quarterstaff. Or by the lake in the forest by Meadora, focusing on her ancestry. Clove kept to herself for the first couple of months, her social skills stunted due to her exile.
Until one day while she was by the lake a Goliath named Krom Bearshoulders came blundering through the clearing and knocked her over in his hast. Krom took Clove by the arm and told her to run. Not knowing what or why Krom had been running through the forest she followed quickly behind him.
Once far enough away they climbed a tree as a very angry Dwarf ran past. When he was far enough away Krom began to laugh, Clove nervously laughing along with him. Her heart was beating faster than it ever had before. The thrill of running through the woods was something completely new to her, as she wasn’t allowed to go deep into Donnadosa Forest in case she ran over the border of her mothers homeland of Krom. Apparently Krom had, as a prank, started a small fire in the dorm room and unfortunately the bed of the Dwarf, who was called Weggus Greatchin, had caught fire in the process, which prompted Krom to be chased through the school and out into the forest.
Clove befriended Krom and a multitude of other Druids, the Dwarf who she had been running from her first day meeting Krom and a Tiefling named Azi. The four of them would routinely pull pranks on one another, and the 4 of them became the best of friends.
Clove slowly started to feel like she belonged, with friends around her. She became especially close to Krom, it could be called what most people call a crush but Clove had closed off her heart to such things. After seeing her mother lose everything for the one she loved, she was afraid of what she would lose if she allowed herself to love. She knew that she would be okay and didn’t let her feelings get in her way.
Then the night of graduation the group had played spin the halfling, Clove let her hair down for the first time in forever. And followed her heart and ignored her head.
Clove awoke with the sun on her face, she woke to see Krom sitting next to her. Then a sudden nauseous feeling came over her and she threw up. The night's adventures came back to her, realising that she did the one thing she promised herself that she wouldn’t do. She didn’t regret a moment of it but it hadn’t gone to plan. ‘Shit, shit, shit.’ she muttered to herself, her eyes searched for Krom but he had already gotten up to leave. Clove tried to get up to go after him but she had the hangover of the century.
She stayed by the lake all day, she thought about everything and nothing at all. Her mind was a blur, she didn’t want to feel like this, her heart twisted in her chest. She knew her own goal, it had been the only thing she had ever wanted in her life. A place that she could call home, a place to belong.
And she knew Kroms plans for the future, going back to his own home land and reclaiming that from the dragon that killed his father. Where would she fit in his plan? Where would Krom fit in hers? She knew if she stayed by his side and him by her’s, that neither would get where they wanted to be. And she could never ask Krom to abandon his destiny for what? A life of exile? And what if they did end up together? What of their children?
No, she could never bring life into this world. Not having been abandoned herself by people who should have celebrated her birth. She could never allow someone else to question themselves and their own existence.
As the day grows to night she knows that she has to do the hardest thing she has had to do in her 22 years on this earth.
Clove approaches Krom from behind, she takes a deep breath and pushes through her inner thoughts. Clove thanks Krom from his years of friendship and thanked him for allowing her to be herself. She informed him that she would be leaving to go home in the morning and she wished him all the luck in the world with his venture in the future, hoping he got everything he wanted.
Not speaking of the events from the previous night, they were still too fresh, too raw emotions for her to deal with.
As she packed her bags that evening she hoped that she would never run into Krom in the future, knowing that the outcome would still be too painful for her to deal with. They had different paths to walk and they were in different directions.
Employment
After returning home and speaking with her mother, she learns about the Nexus, where Reybella would go on her adventures when Clove was younger. So that is where she headed to become even stronger.
Mental Trauma
What would mentally destroy Clove?
The death of her parents, or battling off against Myrin and winning but still being denied in her mother village. The one thing she wants more in this world is to belong and be able to move amongst her people without fear.
How does Clove feel about her mother and father?
She loves her parents with her whole heart, they are her everything and it tears her apart that she has (currently) no way of getting back to them, conscious that her father is human and is getting older. Even when being together caused her mother to be banished from her home to be with him.
When did Clove feel completely loved and accepted?
She has always felt love from her parents but she has always known that she isn’t like either of them, the first time that Clove felt accepted was at Meadora when no one seemed to care that she was a Half-Elf. The second time is when she met The Maw and they accepted her with open arms.
What would have to happen to make Clove speak out, or, defend a stranger, in public?
If they were being treated badly because they are different from those around them. From never feeling like she belonged anywhere she can’t stand by while others are different for something they cannot help.
What does he lie about?
Her birth name (Zumren) as that that is linked to a family that didn’t want anything to do with her when they found out she was a Half-Elf. And she downplays how lonely she truly feels, although she feels accepted by The Maw, something eats its way into her brain that she doesn’t truly belong among them. She lied to Krom after they spent the night together as to why she left the way she did, never wanting to bring life into this world who would question themselves and their own existence.
Does Clove need friends?
Yes and no. No, because she has always been alone, one of the reasons she took the circle of the Hive, was so she could be her own company. But also yes because she is scared that she will always be alone and she needs the reassurance when she wakes up every morning and the group is still there and call her ‘Leader’
What physical thing does Clove fear most?
Myrin Bileth, the head of the High Council of the Enlightened. No one has stuck fear into Clove's heart as Myrin did when he fought her when she faced off with him. The raw power and strength of a Full High Elf.
What is Cloves defining strength?
Clove is very passionate, she might not always show it because of her anxieties but if she finds something or someone to fight for then she will not stop until she has reached her goal.
Is Clove able to work for someone else?
While in the Nexus Clove has worked with/for many a creature, she knows when to stay on the course and when to be quiet. She has and will listen to any directions that are given to her.
Does Clove have a positive or negative body image?
Clove has a very positive body image, she is fit and healthy and that is visible in her strong body. She doesn’t think herself as pretty but also she doesn’t think she is particularly ugly. Just average.
Who, or what would Clove die for?
Her parents, Krom and Hope.
Does Clove have a plan for tomorrow? Next week? Next year?
Clove hasn’t planned further then getting home to her parents and in the future, facing off against Myrin again. After that, she doesn’t know what she will do. Not knowing if Myrin will kill her in their battle
Is Clove resilient enough to change?
Clove is easily adaptable and can change to any situation that she finds herself in.
Does Clove have any regrets?
Clove regrets leaving her parents, knowing the danger she was walking into when going to the Nexus. She regrets not telling Krom the truth after their night together about why she couldn’t be with him.
