Entry 0: The not so secret origins of a Halfling Thief.

Devolurit wasn't a terrible place for an upbringing. Silkie's father Cassius and mother Mere settled there some 25 odd years ago. As such Silkie has never stepped foot in her families original homeland of Hesh. She does have a slight Heshian accent from her parents, but is otherwise culturally a Devolurit. Her father Cassius is stern, yet bold in his trading company. Profit necessitates risk after all, and haflings are braver than most. As such his business sees a fair bit of profit, not obscenely so, and there is certainly competition in the trade, but he does well enough to support his family and five children. As the second eldest and first of two daughters Silkie was always a bit of a black sheep in the family. She'd roam marketplaces seemingly aimlessly lifting the odd coin or two and would excitedly watch soldiers march by with young boys about her age. Cassius is incredibly against her casually stealing, but knows that there's not really much of a leash he could secure her with. At the very least she did just enough work in her studies to keep him placated. He insisted that his children understand Celestial, under the assumption that they may one day have to interact with the highborn faction of Devolurit society if good fortunes stayed with them. He believes in both the flighty sporadic nature of luck, that you cannot guarantee when or how fortunes may turn in your favor, but in also being thoroughly prepared. If an opportunity is missed, it is because you the individual weren't ready and observant enough to capitalize on it. He hammers this lesson into all of his children. One thing that he had not anticipated from the families disappointing criminal daughter is her own independant lessons in orcish. He approved of the learning wholeheartedly, and is one of the few things Silkie has done of her own volition that . Yosika is a powerful nation and being able to speak with the members of their upper caste in their own language may certainly prove useful as a sign of respect he figures. Little did he know that this passion towards learning orcish is because Silkie had found manuals and tomes relating to combat, and wanted to learn from them for herself. As a young lass she'd play swords with other deliquent adjacent kids, and had even received a small ornate crossbow from her mother as a birthday gift.
 
Her antics came to a head when she was picking up groceries for her family in the marketplace. 19 at the time she casually bumped into a judge and lifted his coinpurse as a few apples scattered to the ground. It would've been a clean snatch if he hadn't grabbed her wrist and taken his money back. Unsurprisingly men who can find you guilty of committing crimes against them specifically are bad choices of people to pickpocket. She didn't return home that evening and would find herself working under the sun tending a large field of grapes for over 20 months. All things considered she could've been treated much harsher because of her somewhat regular stealing in that same very market, but upon her eventual release, she didn't exactly have much of an urge to reunite with her family. Figuring she'd already been disowned by her father because of her own mistakes Silkie set out on her own, continuing to practice her skills and earning her own money and supplies through her skill at theft.
