I just turned 50 years old. How time flew. As part of my resolution now I'm 50, I have decided to write the significant years of my life

13th Zolantyr. The day I , Winter d'Medani, was born was the coldest of the 52nd year of the Last War. I was born in one of the inns in Wroat. According to Father, it was just him, my mother, and a midwife inside the room. I used to wonder why I was not born in the hospital or in Father's house, but I found out that it was because I was born out of wed-lock. My parents met while father was doing his mission and fell in love with my elven mother. Father was willing to marry Mother, but she declined. Father no longer told me Mother's reason. Father just told me that both us were abandoned. Mother left Wroat as soon as she recovered from childbirth. I don't know anything about her except for her name - Samara.

I have a hard time growing up in Wroat. I really don't like living in the city too much. When I have free time between my studies, I'd sneak out of the city and play in the fields. At times, I even get to explore the forest near Wroat. Alas, things changed when I turned 15 years old. As the son of a high-ranking House Agent of House Medani, I was forced into trials to show my dragonmark to prove my lineage. I underwent several trials in a period of a year before the Mark of Detection appeared in my nape. It was small - almost unnoticeable. I don't want to recall the tests. They were unhappy memories.

I have finished my basic education. I also took some classes in the university before father told me to train as an Investigator and serve House Medani. Honestly, I was hesitant. I have never imagined myself being an Investigator. I'd rather be a gardener. A scholar studying plants doesn't sound bad either. But alas, I can't refuse Father. So I became a trainee under one of the Investigators under the House.
