Appearance
Physical Description
Slender, tall, and graceful, much like that of a ballet dancer.
Body Features
Dimensions are 30–22–34.
Facial Features
Usually, if not always, has a resting bitch face; however, there is undeniable beauty in her features.
Identifying Characteristics
Always wears a black cloak adorned with raven feathers.
Veiny, black tattoos are wrapped around her neck, always looking as though there is a dark poison coursing through her body. While not visible, the tattoos go down her chest and across her breasts, and down to the small of her back in a "V" shape. They had appeared after her odd transformation into hundreds of ravens during a traumatic event. She also has two large scars in the shape of jacked up holes on the back of her shoulders where wings had sprouted out of her back at one time. She always tries to keep it concealed, as she does not like to explain why they are there. It worries some Shadar-Kai that she may have been touched by the shadow curse in a peculiar manner that has never manifested in a way like this before. It fascinates the Raven Queen.
Wears nothing of color, but has small jewels of considerable vibrancy embellishing her clothes and headdresses.
Her skin, snowy white, will catch others off guard if they're unfamiliar with the Shadar-Kai race, as it resembles that of a vampire.
Physical quirks
None.
Apparel & Accessories
Has two bejeweled silver daggers she has fastened to her that she never uses, but are stained with old, dry blood; they hold a sentimental value. They had belonged to Lucias, an old companion.

Personal history
“Whenever I come to a new place, I collect rumors and fables.”
Lana was, in fact, once upon a time a secret keeper. Going around different libraries, universities, hospitals, digging around every nook and cranny like a well-trained private investigator. Always on the prowl for dark artifacts, powerful secrets, and hidden knowledge. She would do, say, and see some shady stuff throughout her travels with her companion, Lucias. They traveled different realms and planes together, snatching up the most delectable of juicy secrets to take back to their Raven Queen who reveled in the most intriguing rumors and gossip of the worlds. She would store some secrets away for her to keep in her Fortress of Memories, removing the original source from their realm, so that only she alone would have that knowledge. Some secrets, mind you, that other deities and gods would love to have in their possession, for reasons unknown.
Of noble birth and from Gloomwrought, one of the largest cities in Shadowfell, Lana spent most of her younger years in the library or at the market, her nose always dug into a book. While others excelled in learning with the spiked chains and whips, preparing to become the rogues or warlocks most are assigned to become, Lana preferred to sneak off and learn more secrets, more stories, both fiction and non-fiction, for “real power is in knowledge”. She’d find the shadiest hidey-hole in Shadowfell and dream of big conquests as she read about dragons and old wives tales, armies and wars, royal lineages and legends, page after page, chapter after chapter. In time she grew old enough to begin her own journey’s and was given missions to “seek secrets”; she was assigned a bodyguard, a peer of hers of lesser birth who had always been more agile and stealthy, and the two of them worked together to retrieve the secrets of the lands they were designated to. While most of the time they got on each other’s nerves, it was inevitable that they started to bond and grow closer as decades passed. Together they became a dynamic pair with well-known tales throughout Shadowfell and went under the moniker of “Cloak & Dagger”.
During one of their harder operations assigned to them, Lucias was slain by a pack of feral vampires. Lana, heartbroken, could only scream out to him and fall to her knees as she prepared to become the next victim. Her mind went vacant… dark. Her eyes became completely black, and large raven feathers began to burst out of her back. Her scream became a deafening shrill, then a woeful squawk, as she burst into hundreds of ravens and flew off. When she came to, she was passed out on the marbled floor of her family’s parlor, not remembering much, but having a throbbing headache and—for some odd reason—a heavy heart. It wasn’t until a couple days later that the magic manifested and her powers began to surface, but when they did, they came with incredible force.
“Live life to the fullest so that you may not succumb to ennui and fade out of existence.”
Shadar-Kai are prone to depression due to the environment they exist and were molded in. To avoid this from happening, Shadar-Kai live extreme lifestyles, embracing “strong emotions” and “peak experiences”, always chasing that adrenaline rush and pushing boundaries. While Lana could probably be described as more disciplined in etiquette and mannerism and will always try to solve problems with as little casualties as possible, she is in fact no different then most of her kin. Always looking for a new thrill and a new story to tell, Lana is usually eager and willing to throw herself into danger. Whatever the circumstances, whatever the outcomes, Lana has indeed put herself into some pretty precarious situations a time or two, and yet continues without fail to extend her limitations. Her dream is to one day become a legend and make it into the books she has worn the pages out of.
“I didn’t ask for this power, yet she [Raven Queen] requires that I hone it.”
At one point Lana had been destined to become a witch, lacking in any skills required to become Sorrowsworn or a Raven Knight, and had fully come to terms that she was and would always be a scholar first. People were hard to understand, but books were not. She trained relentlessly, wanting to bring honor to her family name and to make a reputation for herself. That was until the change.
“You must face hardships, as I had. You will no doubt question your loyalty to me, and you will feel abandoned at times, but never mistaken my child. I am always watching out for you. I want to see you grow strong so that you may serve Shadowfell—our people, our home—to the best of your abilities. Now go forth. Grow and seize every opportunity you can. And when you come back, may you serve beside me as one of my strongest supporters.”
The Raven Queen blessed her, gave her a new assignment, and then casted her into a new plane of existence, temporarily exiling her from Shadowfell. Truth be told, Lana hates being a sorceress. None of this was supposed to happen. And yet, diligent as always, she obeys her commands.
“I have a cursed bloodline.”
If Shadar-Kai lose part of their soul by getting close to death, they grow colder and more cruel. If on the Material Plane, eventually a shadow curse will overtake them and transform them into shadow-like undead horrors, much like a wraith, but with dark feathers across their backs. If in Shadowfell, their bodies simply turn into ash as they float away into the breeze and fade into existence. Most Shadar-Kai would blame this on living a “gloomy, boring existence”. It would take a wish or a miracle to prevent this calamity from happening.
Oftentimes they will use pain to “keep their focus” on the Material Plane. Tattoos, scarification, and body piercings are all common features of a Shadar-Kai. Self-flagellation is a method commonly used if a Shadar-Kai feels as though they are being overtaken by the curse. Pain is their friend, for it keeps them from becoming monsters.
While Lana is of this bloodline, hers is also coursing with magical properties. While it is not completely unheard of amongst her people, it is definitely of an uncommon occurrence for a sorcerer or sorceress to be born into the realm. Most Shadar-Kai become rogues or, if lacking in physical prowess, warlocks and witches who serve the Raven Queen. When a sorcerer or sorceress comes around every few decades, they are usually quickly “taken under the Queen’s wing” (as once a sorceress herself) and are assigned special tasks. No one generally ever questions why or doubts their Queen’s purpose, whether good or bad.
