Personal history

Valera's father is an elf and her mother is a half elf. Her father, Thalur, was a sage, spending a large majority of his time in his laboratory. When her mother Astrid was pregnant with Valera she visited Thalur often, knowing that these were the only times she could talk to her husband. On one of these visits she went into labor with Valera, giving birth to their first-born child in Thalur's laboratory.
When Valera was three years old she was brought to the dragon tower, so many other children had not been chosen her parents had been sure she would be rejected as well. But to their shock and sorrow, their first-born and at the time only child was chosen, and an egg hatched for her. She was taken in by the dragon riders, and raised in the tower to become a rider herself someday, alongside her white dragon, Xalar.
In the beginning things were hard for the two, with Xalar not only being a rare loyal Chromatic dragon, but also being a white dragon. Many were suspicious of the two, and wondered why a white dragon had chosen the young child. But Valera was easily liked, and quickly made friends, and everyone seemed to know the half elf girl that was chosen by a white dragon. Possibly because of Xalar's bond with Valera, or maybe his loyalty to Bahamut, or possibly both, he was different from what they expected a white dragon to be.
Her parents continued to visit her for the first few months, until one day Astrid gave birth to another child, a boy named Eilong. Her parent's visits became less and less, until she only saw them two to maybe three times a year. When she was five years old her parents had another child, a girl named Allora. Soon only her father continued to visit her, her mother to busy with her new children. By the time Valera was ten her mother had six other children, two boys and four girls. Eilong, Allora, Hazel, Talianna, Jarrel, and North. And she had met none of them. Her mother never visited, but her father still tried.
When she was thirteen she met Eilong for the first time. The two became fast friends, and even Xalar, who was not fond of very many people, liked him. Eilong visited her as often as he could, and she enjoyed his visits. When Eilong became sixteen he joined the Bronze Division, intent on becoming the best and eventually joining the Platinum Division.
With Eilong's visits becoming less as his duties became more intense Valera searched for anything to take up more of her time and maybe add a little gold to her pockets. She began to help the animal keepers that raised and bred the different types of livestock that would be available for the dragons. Her and Xalar helped keep an eye on the different livestock, keeping the breeders separated from the feeders, and making sure that an over zealous dragon did not eat more than what it was allowed. They both enjoyed animal keeping, especially since Xalar was allowed first choice every morning.
As Valera grew older and was allowed to leave on her own more often she began to explore her world, and discovered the vast evilness that tainted such a beautiful world. During her adventure she contracted a disease that nearly killed her. A paladin named Eralith saved her life, curing her from her disease, a streak of silver in her hair the only evidence left from the disease that almost took her life. After meeting the paladin, and seeing the darkness of the world, she made a promise to pay the paladin back for his kindness, to become a paladin herself and purge all evil she came across.
Recently Valera and Xalar were taken captive by a black dragon that held them prisoner for four months. They were finally rescued by a group of adventurers that happened to be passing by and heard about the possibility of a dragon hoarding piles of treasure. The adventurers were not expecting coming up against a black dragon, but they were able to free Valera and Xalar before the group quickly retreated from the terrifying dragon. Valera didn't get a chance to thank the group as their retreat did not end once they were outside of the dragon's swamp and they were surprisingly speedy. Valera returned home to the Dragon Tower.

Valera works a side job in the dragon towers live stock fields, raising and breeding the livestock that the dragons eat.
