The Songs of Fear

by Ismaril Starborn

In one of the many rooms of the Starborn Estate, rested a beautiful music room. Rarely used now. Curtains are drawn partly, allowing soft streams of sunbeams to cascade into the shadows of each corner. In one of those corners was a beautifully crafted white wood harp. A book lay open atop a side table near the harp, with many pages of it filled. The design of the book cover seemed to match several on a nearby shelf. Upon the newest page, Ismaril was carefully writing. Several moments would pass before she would read over the words a few times and then move to sit at the harp.

The music room would soon be filled with a haunted-sounding waltz from the strings of the harp. Ismaril closing her eyes, she would softly begin to sing the words she had written upon the latest page. Her voice was not very loud, as she was more of a harpist than she was a singer. But the song seemed to have pain and melancholy behind it.

Hold me close to you
My candle in the gloom
Are we light enough?
To save this love

I know I drift away
When darkness comes to play
But don't give up
On our fading love

If you're no longer here
I'm scared I'll disappear
Into the land of darkness
And emptiness
And loneliness

If you're no longer here
I'm scared I'll disappear
Into the land of darkness
And emptiness
And loneliness

Hear my heartbeat
Calling out to
You can hear it
Beating in the
Darkness fills this
House of memory
Remember
I still love you

If you're no longer here
I'm scared I'll disappear
Into the land of darkness
And emptiness
And loneliness

As the song ended, she would take a moment to come back to her senses. Opening her eyes, she would cover the harp once more with a drape, then move to the book and close it. Placing it on the shelf next to the dozens of others of what seemed a series. Then moving to close the drapes once more casting the room into dim lighting as she made her way to leave the room.
