Gantry's integrated tool is a short crane that is used for hauling crates of fish off of the boats. He's very loyal to the man who made him, Old Doc Beal, the town's beloved artificer.
When Gantry isn't hauling crates of fish, he wanders the town, talking to market vendors and children and helping out with any odd jobs. The children of the town love Gantry and call him Mister Lifty. The local chapter of sea scouts have convinced him to take a load of their cookies and sell them for them.
Ledgetown has a mysterious old temple with a high clock tower, but it's abandoned and no one worships there anymore. Clerics sometimes visit to study it. Gantry found himself called towards the old temple. He was enthralled by the delicate craftsmanship on the clock, which mysteriously still ran despite no one attending to it. Gantry was called into the temple by the goddess Boldrei, and he bowed to her among the rubble. He swore to uphold her word and to restore the temple to its former glory.
As he was considering how to follow his goddess’s orders, Gantry hauled up one trap that had a golden karp flapping around with the other fish. Carefully removing it, it grew rapidly, bloating to an unnaturally squat three and a half feet tall and three feet wide. A male gnome crawls out of its mouth. He's wearing brown overalls over a deep navy blue long-sleeved shirt with golden buttons. As he stood before Gantry, he noticed his bright red leather slip-on shoes and his exceptionally long feet. His grin was wide, nose stout, eyes gold as his buttons, and thin, sun bleached hair reached his shoulders. The karp returned to its original size and the gnome picked up the fish and placed it in his overall pocket.
The gnome introduced himself himself as "Not-a Gloompior Heavyfooted," but he says,"you can call him Not-a." He unnerved Gantry, and it's not just his sudden appearance, but his demeanor. It is stiff and stuttered as if his bones and muscles can only move in small clusters of independent movement.
"I know what you want, I know where to find them, I only ask two favors. Find me in Valis at Not-a'loan's Spiritual Guidance," he said. Out of his other pocket he pulled out a small piece of parchment, cut in the shape of a fish. On the front is the name of his business and on the back is a symbol Gantry did not recognize. As he handed it over, his body crumpled into a puddle of water, leaving behind a small pouch made of leather with a red cord. After opening it Gantry found 20 silver inside.
After a final prayer at Boldrei’s temple and a teary goodbye with Old Doc, Gantry left Ledgetown on a fundraising campaign to restore Boldrei's name and raise money to fund the repairs on the temple, partly done through the sales of the sea scout cookies, and partly on the promise of a funny gnome in a fish.
