Personal history
Sip was born in the surroundings of human civilization. This is quite exceptional for a Lizardfolk, since their eggs usually are burrowed near the tribes' location. But Sip's tribe was dying. His mother, Leya, dug up his egg and wandered away from the tribe. Food shortage and a lack of male tribe members lead to the demise of the tribe, and Leya took her chances with her future son.
Sip's mother found refuge with a small settlement called Grimbell. The local inn, "The White Crow", employed Leya as servant, while providing a roof for her and Sip.
It was a save place for now, nothing special and certainly nothing comfortable, but it provided shelter and that's what mattered the most for Leya. The innkeeper, Victor, never showed his face and always relayed messages through other servants or letters left behind in their room.
Although communication was limited, everyone knew Victor was quite fond of the two lizards, especially of the newborn Sip.
In their new-found home, Leya told Sip all about Semuanya as he grew up. That he is Kecuala and therefore a descendant of Semuanya. But never did she tell him of the tribe. The young Sip often played by himself, since there were no kids in Grimbell that were allowed near the inn, let alone near a Lizardfolk.
At the age of 14, Sip's mother became ill. Victor had sent her out for collecting goods from a merchant at a nearby village. She didn't know that amongst those goods would be a collection of small spiders. On the journey back to Grimbell, a single spider managed to crawl out of its container, and Leya mistook it as a wandering snack.
Unfortunately, the spider held a potent poison that attacks a humanoids immune system. In turn, this would lead to Leya becoming ill and unable to restore her health. Normally a Poison Dusk Lizardfolk could overcome this with ease, but Leya was underfed and becoming of old age. The poison went unnoticed for weeks and would create havoc for her immune system. By the time Leya became sick, the damage was irreversible...
After weeks of care from Sip, she slept away in her sleep and Sip was left alone. Victor stepped in to raise him and teach him about the world. But this came at a price, Sip had to take his mother's place as a servant to maintain Victor's hospitality.
It didn't take long before Sip found out that Victor was running a small but highly regarded local thieves' guild. Soon, Victor started giving Sip assignments that wouldn't be on the good side of the law. Not that he had to perform acts of violence, but burglary and spying on unaware targets became a standard request from Victor.
Under Victor's mentorship, Sip honed his skills in stealth, burglary, and the art of handling poisons. The hidden nature of their activities forced Sip to embrace a life in the shadows, always remaining cautious and vigilant. Despite the morally ambiguous nature of his assignments, Sip discovered that he possessed a natural talent for the thieves' trade.
As Sip delved deeper into his training, he became increasingly proficient in the use of poisons, developing a keen understanding of their effects and properties. Under Victor's guidance, he discovered the intricate art of crafting deadly toxins, expanding his arsenal and becoming a formidable adversary to those who stood in their way.
Over time, Sip's connection to Semuanya, the lizardfolk deity, deepened. Through his mother's teachings and Victor's mentorship, he learned to embrace his heritage as a Kecuala, a descendant of Semuanya. Despite being separated from his tribe and having no knowledge of their fate, Sip's faith in Semuanya remained unwavering.
Yet, as the years passed, Sip grew conflicted. The life of a thief weighed heavily on his conscience, and he longed for a greater purpose beyond serving Victor's needs. He yearned for redemption and a chance to make amends for the illicit acts he had committed.
In the midst of this internal struggle, Sip's world was turned upside down once again. News reached Grimbell of an impending danger that threatened the entire region. A marauding force of Koalinth, the aquatic enemies of the lizardfolk, had begun assaulting nearby settlements, including the Othek tribe near Saltmarsh—the very tribe Victor suspected Sip hailed from.
Driven by a mix of curiosity, a desire to uncover his origins, and a sense of responsibility towards his kin, Sip embarked on a personal quest. Leaving Grimbell behind, he ventured into the dangerous realm of Saltmarsh, determined to find answers and aid his fellow lizardfolk.
As he explored the murky swamps and treacherous coastal territories, Sip encountered various challenges and obstacles. He drew upon his training as a rogue to navigate these perilous environments, utilizing his agility, cunning, and ability to move undetected. Along the way, he also encountered a diverse array of individuals, some of whom shared his goals and joined him in his quest.
Through these encounters, Sip's perspective began to shift. He realized that he could wield his skills for more than just personal gain or the whims of others. With each act of justice he enacted, each life he protected, and each Koalinth he vanquished, he found solace and a sense of purpose.

Sip's employment encompasses a wide range of covert activities, including burglary, espionage, and intricate heists. Through his mastery of lockpicking, trap evasion, and agile movement, he navigates treacherous environments with stealth and finesse. Sip's expertise lies in gathering sensitive information, acquiring valuable artifacts, and accomplishing discreet tasks that demand his resourcefulness and dexterity.
Operating within the shadows, Sip relies on his ability to communicate in Thieves' Cant, an intricate language of gestures, signs, and coded phrases.
