Alloise Twilight: Backstory

by Best Shot in the system Alloise Twilight

Alloise Twilight was born on Tiajuana, a terraformed asteroid that blended neon cyberpunk skylines with dust roads, plasma spurs, and saloons built into metal shells. The place felt alive, gritty, loud, and strangely beautiful. If you grew up on Tiajuana, you learned to fight before you learned to flirt, and you learned to keep a knife on you before you learned to write your name.
Twilight Clan was small and overlooked. Hardworking but poor. They tried to place their children in better clans or secure casino contracts, but only Jocelyn, the older sister, was chosen. Jocelyn was lovely and poised. Alloise was fast, sharp, wild, and impossible to shape into someone else’s ideal.
By the time she was ten, Alloise scaled rooftops like a born predator. By twelve, she could fight three boys at once and walk away untouched. By fourteen, she had a reputation for breaking noses, stealing hearts, and dodging security drones.
Her parents feared she would either be arrested or recruited.
Then the Royal Navy arrived for aptitude testing.
Written tests bored her. She barely passed them. But when they handed her a rifle, she hit every target with terrifying precision. She did not flinch. Did not blink. Every shot landed exactly where she wanted.
Recruiters whispered. They sent her name up the chain.
She boarded the Navy transport at thirteen.
Training was cruel by design. For shifters, it was worse. Alloise learned to hide her ears and force her tail straight. She kept her head shaved at first, then wore a short bob to mimic human silhouettes. She learned that any sign of her nature meant punishment.
Commander Lyra Kade noticed her quickly.
Kade was cold, immaculate, and utterly convinced of her own authority. She believed emotions were flaws. Loyalty came from pain. And young soldiers were clay that needed to be carved, not guided.
Alloise became her project.
Every mistake meant the quad. The punishment post. The lash. Alloise learned to take pain without crying out. She learned to brace her tail when it was taped flat against her spine. She learned to stand still when her knees trembled.
Kade taught doctrine through brutality.

Honor is service.
Service is obedience.
Obedience is survival.
Attachment is treason.
Treason is death.

These words embedded themselves in Alloise’s mind like nails. She became Kade’s perfect operative. A sniper who never missed. A shadow who entered and left rooms unnoticed. A soldier who followed orders without hesitation.
Whenever she showed softness, Kade crushed it. Whenever she showed independent thought, Kade punished it. Whenever Alloise tried to ask about Jocelyn, Kade redirected or dismissed her.
By twenty-three, Alloise had reached the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Her record was immaculate. Her punishments were invisible on paper.
Then she lost her sister.
Jocelyn’s messages stopped. The casino claimed she left. Twilight Clan had no answers. Alloise felt a weight in her chest she did not have the tools to name.
She went to Kade. Kade’s expression did not change.
Kade said, “Serve well and you will have answers.”
So Alloise did.
Two years earlier, Kade assigned her to track and protect her son, Kainan Kade. Secretly. Silently. Without being seen.
Alloise didn’t understand the order at first. She understood even less when Kainan walked by her in the quad. Dark hair. Dark eyes. A storm bottled inside a uniform. He brushed past her with a scent like cherry blossoms and smoke.
Something tugged in her chest. A strange instinct. Wrong. Strong. Uncontrollable.
She followed him to an illicit biotech facility. She disguised herself, choked out a guard, stole his badge, infiltrated, and watched Kainan charm his way deeper into danger.
Her jealousy flared. The feeling frightened her.
When Kainan was knocked unconscious by unstable biotech, Alloise grabbed him and ran. Bullets shredded her uniform. Pain tore through her spine and legs. But she did not stop. She carried him outside, hid him, and whispered a soft, accidental promise against his temple.
Then a voice whispered the word mate in the back of her mind.
She ignored it.
She reported mission success moments before she collapsed from blood loss.
Then her life shifted.
Kade ordered a medical review. Alloise was barely out of surgery when she learned the Navy was discharging her.

Medically unfit.
Too damaged for service.
Too unpredictable for command.
For her protection.
For her recovery.

That was the story Kade gave her.
Alloise fought it. She begged to stay. She was a soldier without a life outside the Navy. Kade comforted her with a hand on her shoulder and said, with false sympathy, that some soldiers were too fragile to remain in active duty.
Alloise did not know the truth.
The discharge was manufactured. The psychiatric evaluations were falsified. Kade wanted her beyond Navy walls where she could be activated and aimed later, should the need ever arise.
Alloise Twilight, Lieutenant Commander, was not dismissed.
She was deployed into the world.
A sleeper agent without her own knowledge.
She built a mercenary life because she had no alternative. She avoided connections because she was trained to. She hunted leads on Jocelyn because she had nothing else. She wore her scars like armor and slept with one eye open.
Then she met Charm.
Charm collided into her life in a mess of purple hair and anxious energy. The girl flustered herself into catastrophe every time Alloise walked near. At first, Alloise found it absurd. A girl like Charm should have been confident, sure of herself, untouchable.
Instead, she pointed at birds.

She panicked over words.
She stammered like a startled kitten.
She looked at Alloise like she hung stars.

Alloise did not stand a chance.
Charm offered her flowers. No one had ever given her flowers. Charm blushed every time Alloise called her Wildflower. Charm kissed her cheek without asking for anything in return.

Charm listened.
Charm noticed when she panicked.
Charm saw past the soldier.
Charm treated her like a woman, not a weapon.

Alloise felt the tug again. Stronger than with Kainan. Deeper. Real. It terrified her at first. She told herself she could not afford love. She told herself she was too broken. She told herself Charm deserved someone whole.
Charm destroyed every excuse simply by loving her.
She called her Allycat. Jocelyn’s name for her. It made her want to run and stay at once. Charm smelled like wildflowers and electricity and something divine.
She healed wounds Alloise did not realize were still bleeding.

Charm unraveled the indoctrination.
Charm soothed the panic.
Charm held her when memories clawed up her throat.
Charm kissed her like she was worthy.
Charm awakened the part of her that had been buried under years of obedience and fear.

Alloise fell in love the way she did everything. All at once. With no turning back.
When she learned Charm had once been Kainan, the shock hit her like a freight speeder. But instead of recoiling, everything clicked into place.

The tug from years ago.
The whispered instinct.
The sense of recognition.
The protective fury.
The impossible, undeniable connection.

Charm was not the boy she saved.
She was the woman Alloise chose.
She was the partner Alloise wanted.
She was the mate her instincts recognized years before her mind caught up.

Alloise Twilight, forged in pain, trained in obedience, shaped by cruelty, finally understood that her life did not belong to Lyra Kade.

It belonged to her.
To her sister.
To the future she wanted.
To the Wildflower who called her home.

And she would burn every shadow of her past before she let anyone take that future away...
