First child of Argomian merchant Lucas Vandroogenbroeck. Handsome, bohemian with great artistic ambitions. Built a name for himself as an artist in the town of Alldris after leaving his rural home in southern Argomu. Worked for commissions of different size and importance for several years. Fueled by the praise of his peers in the district of Emerald Park and the more prestigious of his commissioners he soon gave himself the name ”De Groot”, literally meaning ”The Great”, during one of many wild parites with fellow artists, bohemians and newly rich merchants. The name unexpectedly stuck, to no bother of Hieronymus'.
Mostly reclusive and focused on his work and studies into the potential of art, when he's not taking part in bohemian parties, an attendence fanned by his underlying desire of inner escapism and obliteration of the self.
Due to a connection with the mysterious figure who calls himself Klopstock, Hieronymus began exploring the world of the occult and dark magic in different forms, learning to integrate various mystical symbols into painting commissions ordered by Klopstock.
Intruiged by Klopstock and the new knowledge he supplied, Hieronymus began spending more time with him, getting introduced to the margins of the obscure underground life and small societes of Alldris.
During one of these gatherings Hieronymus was introduced to the drug Opium. Entranced by the intoxication his mind became the host of strange visions.
The newfound interest in the occult, the peculiar magical knowledge recieved by Klopstock, in combination with an escalating use of opium, Hieronymus' constitution slowly began to change into a person drunk on the search and exploration of the posibilities of art in connection to the metaphysical plane – stimulating him to begin painting less conventional commissions and more abstract, symbolic and surrealistic pieces of art, making him perhaps one of the most progressive – and to some, controversial – artist of his time.
