Personal history

Jackdaw got into the blood hunter organization quite young. It was a wish that grew after seeing both his parents being mercenaries when he was a child – his parents often went out of town, leaving Jackdaw alone at home with the rest of the woodland elves at the edge of The High Forest, in a village called Noanar's Hold. Jackdaw looked up to his parents, even though they often left him to himself. While on a mission, both his parents died in battle. Jackdaw, who was still quite young, wanted to outgrow his parents. He wanted to be bigger and stronger than both. So, he sought out what he meant was exactly that. He longed for a new family, his old community only reminded him of his loss, so he chose to leave, and left to go north-eat to Nathoud, where the academy of Blood Hunters lay. Here he found what would become his new family. New friends and new companions. He only brought with him a few items, most importantly was his father’s shield- said to have been carved out of a black tree growing straight from the Underdark, and his mother’s warpick, a weapon forged by his great-great-great grandfather who was a dwarf.

In Nathoud Jack met an organization who sought to make the individual stronger in every way. Stronger in battle, stronger in mind and stronger powers. This fitted Jackdaw perfectly, both with his views and his wants. It was everything he wanted. They were taught about dark powers, powers they soon would wield. And Jackdaw loved it, what other had taken his parents than dark powers? He would become the master of what had ruined his family.

He trained well, and quickly grew in the organization. And then he came to the point where he had to extend his powers. To determine what he wanted to go further with, which powers to excel in. The training got harder, and they were to feel what they wanted to do, what they felt they could. Jackdaw didn’t have to think, didn’t have to figure it out. He knew what he was, what he wanted. He was a monster. There was something dark and strong deep inside him, something he needed to unleash. But the training took time, and Jackdaw was impatient. This would take forever; he would be old and grey before he managed all they wanted. Or even worse, he would give up before it.

So he made a plan. Together with his human friend Gregol Vorskesk- an ugly man who resembled an orc. Jackdaw wondered if his mother had been half orc or something. He and his friend both wanted to become lycanthropes. They wanted the monster. But studies was not their thing, they didn’t want to sit down and read, they wanted to fight, kill monsters, help people. So they made a plan where they would cheat their way to the final test. They would steal the answers to the upcoming tests, so they always had the answers, and then they would climb the ranks even faster. Jackdaw didn’t need to convince Gregol for long, he was a human man, he wouldn’t see his powers before he was old and grey. He would maybe get to experience them for a decade. It was all Jack needed to say. They did as they had plan, and even though the last test was done with some uncertainty they succeeded. They passed. They had a supervisor during the final test, a shifter named Brock. He was a close friend of Jack, and was so proud and surprised when both of them passed. They were qualified! They went trough with the ritual, and both men got the ability to turn into a lethal wolf when they wanted to. Their powers were stronger and better. They could hear things they couldn’t before, smell things, see things. Everything was enhanced and better. They were so proud.

A few days after the ritual Brock came into Jacks room.
“What have you done?!”. He had discovered that Jacks tests had been cheating, but it was Brock who had to pay the price. It was him who had not done his job right. Brock should have known, they should have told him. He could have been prepared, he could have covered for them. “How could you?”. Everyone was aware of the close relationship between the shifter and the elf. This would not pass easily. Jack apologized, tried to say he would never do anything that hurt Brock. He told him he would confess, that he would tell the leaders. But Brock wouldn’t let him. “They will kill you! This is treason!”. Brock had him leave the academy, and in the dark og the night he left the castle. “Just get out of here. I will fix this. I can’t see you executed. I’ll send you a letter when it’s over. Get out of here!”.

Jack had left. He had left everyone. Even his friend Gregol, which he had not even warned. He had just packed his stuff and left without a word. But the world was not as easy as he tought. Nobody wanted a lethal deathtrap in their house, nor in their work. Eventually he turned to what everyone needed but nobody wanted to speak about; slaughtering monsters. He became a bounty hunter. And he became quite a good one. The training from the academy helped, and soon he was know. He earned good money and met people. He got friends and foes. But a letter never came. One time, when he dared to move closer to the north-west of Faerune again, he met someone who knew about the academy. Who know about Brock. Brock had been executed, for treason…

After that Jack never looked back at the east again. He turned his back on the entire area and never went back, not even when something big and bad roamed there. He ran. He had ruined everything, lost everyone, and now he only had his work.
His work brought him everywhere. All over every lands. He met a lot of people, sometimes he needed help, sometimes he was all alone. Once he met a young man with unrulable hair balancing on a branch, expression so concentrated Jack was sure there was nothing left in his mind. One time he was healed by a little boy in a temple of Ilmater. An ogre had broken his right arm, it was quite painful. But livable. Another time he got wasted with a freshly landed sailor crew, elfs and humans among each other. He hitchhiked with a pirate ship and shared stories and treasure.

During the years he got a lot og colleagues, knew more and more people, and often went with groups and parties to hunt down monsters. But Jack never cared, never tied bonds, never made friends. He was sure several of them saw him as their friend, he didn’t count any of them as his. He rarely said anything, never led anyone. But he joined, he helped. But he experienced and fought everything; cleaning a village for insane blights, stood alone against a raging bugbear, met a devil in a tavern, chopped the head of a cyclops, was fooled by a doppelganger, slaughtered a dragon and everything else. Eventually he couldn’t distinguish one adventure from the other. It became a blur of monsters, friends and hurt. After a while he got tired, tired of the hunting, the killing and the creatures. Tired of the life he had made himself. What was the point? He had experienced everything worth experiencing, and he had done what he had wanted when he was a child. He had beaten his parents’ adventures, tentimes. He had stopped so much evil, it had to be enough for redemption.

But just when he was ready to hang his warpick on the wall, and leave the shield on the ground, he got a letter. A letter from a young man. A letter asking him for help, to find someone. The same morning, he had gotten another note, he had found another note in his bags. A tiny note with one word on it; Undermountain. Maybe this was it? His last mission. His last mission to redeem himself? Well then, he would find this Caden Cliffport, working with the Fine Fellows of Daggerfort. He would bring this man back to the young man Nasim, and then he would retire. So he turned his nose towards one last mission. Waterdeep.
