Laguna born to farmers. Born a water genasi, considered a blessing by some, and a curse of Kaheeli by others.
Children treated her like an outsider and thought she was strange. Some threw rocks at her or called her names.
Fears children because of her childhood.
A daughter of the sea, Laguna returned to the bay shores near her home and explored the depths. She found many treasures in sunken ships and brought them back to her parents to show them.
Parents sold a few of the trinkets, and other townspeople began noticing the family's newfound wealth. Just like Laguna, her parents lacked a proper education, and her father was terrible at keeping secrets.
The Mayor, the wealthiest merchant of the town, learned of Laguna and took note of her abilities. Took advantage of Laguna's naivete and asked to know where she'd found all her family's little treasures. After concocting a plan, he got Laguna's father drunk and the two gambled. Laguna's father lost on the last hand, pushing the family into debt.
Laguna kept returning to the sea. The treasures of the bay were not infinite, and she was struggling to make ends meet for her family. A drought hit the town, lowering her family's harvest and pushing them further into debt.
The sea remained the only nurturing boon in Laguna's life. It taught her many things that could aid in her travels. She practiced with the old weapons she found, learned magics from waterlogged scrolls. With these skills, she left town to find a way to pay off her family's debt.
She'd heard tales of a magical golden shell, a priceless artifact, from various elders in the town. Surely it would help to bring her family from the brink of despair.
With nothing but the bag on her back, Laguna left her family one night. She left a note, telling of her plans and promising to send whatever gold she found back to her mother and father. She would not return until her quest was complete.
