Personal history

Left at the Monastery of the Obsidian Templar by parents who couldn't care for him, Xanthur's turning point in his life started very young when he had the focus and willpower to follow the training of the guards. As he grew, his natural charisma allowed him to get whatever his heart desired, be that an extra helping at meal times or exemption from menial labor to allow him to continue his practice. The senior members of the monastery saw his passion for combat and tested him for "Paladin traits". He passed. He would have been a holy warrior of the light if not for a small cabal of jealous acolytes. After a few incidents of harmless teasing and pranks, Xanthur lost his patience and tried a different approach. One of their bodies still shares a shelf with its original occupant in the collapsed catacombs of the monastery. The others either left or were too scared to defy Xanthur after he demonstrated that he had the elders wrapped around his fingers. This influence eventually allowed him access to the forbidden archives as part of his religious training. Here he found something that touched him the way he was told that his vows should touch him. A tome of dark and forbidden gods that he was to oppose once he was ready. She touched his heart and haunted his dreams with promises of Love Everlasting until he stole back into the forbidden archives and found rites to her. After that first prayer, when she truly spoke to him for the first time, he knew what his life was to be. Forever persecuted for his dark desires, he would need both strength and power. He must be above the common man and equal to the upper crust just to be able to pursue his life's work. Love, the one thing he truly wants, is also to be carefully avoided. He cannot protect her until he can be who he must and show everyone that the Evening Glory is not to be suppressed but encouraged. He is an oathbreaker of course because he did swear to the oaths demanded of him in order to pursue his training. His greatest vice is that he is basically spoiled.
 
Not having to do anything but train and getting whatever he wanted led to him wanting all the fine things in life, hence his desire for fine clothes, of course exaggerated by his need for power and a noblesse appearance.

Education

Religious training from paladin training at the Monastery of the Obsidian Templar and assorted studies from a general enjoyment of reading and access to their large library.
