Both Matt and his sister were born in the British Isles, unfortunately neither got to meet their father as he was tragically killed in an industrial accident when they were still babes.
Their mother remarried, and the children were adopted into the new marriage. The gossip suggests the marriage was more of a business merger than it was a thing of love, but their step-father always treated them like his own children, and in many ways was better then their own mother.
 
The only vestige of their old life was the family business that still holds the original name, Morgan Technologies. A cutting edge development house in no small part thanks to their mother being a genius and driven career woman, and following her husbands death she almost single handedly built the small business into the giant it is today.
 
With such heritage and money it was no surprise to anybody that Matt followed in his mothers footsteps and became a respected genius in his own right.
The shock came when he discovered the source of the family success... multinational government, military and weapons development contracts.
The practices being employed by his mother were beyond scandalous, and when his mother refused to back down he exposed the company and left the Isles behind.
 
Despite the incarceration of it's CEO, and the loss of many contracts, Morgan Technologies has survived... maybe not the powerhouse it once was, but still a respected name in weapons technology.
 
Five years later and Matt had moved to Millenium City and built a small but successful business, Mercer Industries.
Focusing on eco-technology, he Mercer Industries has made quite a name for itself in power, transport and the medical fields.
His business could have flourished, as many of his inventions could easily by adapted for military use, but Matt refused to work in such sectors, and has held the company on a clear and focused path. It's many creations heavily protected (most kept inside his head).
 
It's now been ten years since he last spoke to his family...
