Wedding Crashers

Session 1
 
Finch must’ve been to a dozen of these events within his life. When the invitation and attached note arrive, he accepts with only a slight curiosity. It’s been about a year since he’s seen Myze, but he remembers her fondly, and favor from her will be useful.
He’s been on the road for a little while now, ever since his catering business disbanded, so he’ll need proper attire. He stops in at the city’s tailor to get fitted for a nice vest and picks out some quality fabric swatches. It’s not the nicest clothes he’s worn, but if he’s never heard of the families joining, they must be lower houses anyway.

He arrives promptly on time to the venue, taking a second to assess the Grove, hoping to spy Myze lingering outside. It’s an afternoon wedding, already stickily hot and unpleasant when he strolls up the lane. The guards look just short of incompetent, confirming his suspicions about the lower house status, and he breezes right past them in an attempt to not let their incompetence make him fully late. While it’s good style to arrive late for these functions, it’s good practice to leave time to scout competition, and his catering instincts have never fully worn off.
Finch takes a glimpse around the venue, taking in the scenery, general style of dress, stage, and faint music drifting over the crowd. While not a huge wedding, the crowd seems to vary in origin and class; dwarves, elves, and aaracokora mingle across the lawn. What concerns him is the wait staff, which is trekking through the crowd with all the enthusiasm of a teen at a sporting event. Crisply dressed, but not advanced customer service standards, clearly. Amateure.
He turns towards the refreshment table. Presentable from distance, but studying it closer reveals a limited scope of food and drink offered.
He’s deep into a mental critique when Kaliara saddles up to him.

Finch, momentarily entertained by the goblin’s struggles, picks a seat next to him, then turns to make sure Kaliara was able to get a seat next to him so that he could continue critiquing the wedding to a receptive audience.
There’s a yuan-ti --no she’s a medusa-- sitting at the table already, seems to have had similar seating struggles to the goblin.
He sips his water and keeps an eye on the two who introduced themselves as Instructors at Phyros Orrery, knowing that to be a fairly prestigious school, and as the final seating call goes out a woman swaggers up to the table.

When the shouting started, Finch couldn’t believe his eyes. A bunch of clowns were rushing to the front table. Even when Kaliara asked what to do, the shock hadn’t completely dissipated. Finch was only able to gesture at several of his tablemates, who had already sprung to action. Luckily, once he moved he kept moving, trying to keep himself intact, as he dodged polearms and knives.
The other thing he had to worry about was the blood spray. He'd just bought these clothes and Kaliara decided to combust a person nearly right on top of him. Some people had no respect for finery.
By the time the fighting died down, he’d decided he wanted to know what was at the bottom of this clownery.
