Mentality
Personal history
Alistair lived deep in an abandoned castle for the majority of his life. Instead of being a chest or an article of interest, he disguised himself as a rock when he was young. As he got older and bigger he changes sizes until he could be a wall in front of a door. He never really knew what was inside, but he also never really cared. He preyed on whatever came close. It was during this time that he got his first taste of hearing undercommon.
Alistair was always quiet smart. He quickly learned to include hints of the door behind him to entice adventurers. After a tough fight with an adventuring party Alistair began to rethink his plan. He laid low as he nursed back his wounds, retreating to mimic a few pieces of rubble by the door. He started to speak back words he’s heard, practicing them until he could pronounce them. This was when he had an idea of a better way of getting food. Alistair left his old doorway and headed to a new one. He waited and watched the other monsters of the dungeon. He learned what lived with him in the place, and headed for the entrance. There he transformed into a statue and waited for a party.
Over the next few decades Alistair would call out to those who came to the dungeon and ask them questions. He would trade information of what laid inside for food or knowledge of the outside world. Some parties would attack him and Alistair would slink away and run, but defend himself if he needed too. He used these interactions to practice his languages. Alistair lived as a statue for a long time.
Leaving the Dungeon:
During these decades Alistair learned more about the world outside the dungeon. The more he learned, the more he was intrigued. Not necessarily about the people and places, but the sheer amount of things the world had to offer. He wanted to know more about the things adventurers carried. What was a horse or a tavern? Alistair wanted to know, but the idea of leaving his territory was foreign and startling. During one day a fire broke out from deep within the dungeon. Alistair woke to monsters fleeing from the out of control blaze. He himself left and dragged himself out of the dungeon. Upon seeing the outside for the first time he was amazed. The Underdark was so much larger than he ever imagined. Alistair casted stoneskin on himself and headed out into the underdark to find out what it held for himself.
Becoming a Rouge:
After aimless travel Alistair started to mimic objects within Coverberry This is where he had his first run in with a group of thieves. After watching them do their work Alistair dropped on the back of one of them and hid himself within their backpack. He followed them along until they got back to their hideout, where they spotted him. Alistair immediately spoke to them, trying to defuse the situation. The leader of the gang, a tiefling named Umber, spoke with Alistair and asked him about himself. After talking for a bit the leader extended a hand for Alistair and the mimic joined the gang. Over the next few years Alistair learned common as well as Thieves Can’t. He joined them in their heists, acting as a spy and then sometimes an impromptu backpack.
He stayed with them for years until the city got rattled from the break of the alliance of Ironhaven, Orbbcress, and Grimstone Keep. During this time the ruler of Coverberry cracked down on the city to increase security out of fear for the undead and the uncertainty of what would arise from the unrest of the major powers. Their guild laid low before deciding to skip town. They planned to meet up again in the place they left after 5 years.
Meeting Navari:
Alistair traveled by himself for a while after he split ways with his gang. His travels came to an end when he pretended to be a shield so he could eat from a tiefling’s backpack. When she noticed him she ended up adopting him as a strange pet. Alistair came to know her as Navari. His relationship with her started sassy, as he didn’t like being referred to as a pet, but as they spent more time together she started to treat him as an equal and he respected her.
