Stalking Darkness

by Aednat Byrne

Fury had been her constant companion in the years since the… incident; fury with a hint of despair. She had gotten Dorian away, safely, and had not used all of her collected favors in doing so. However… it had left her and her… duplicity, exposed. It had made her vulnerable in a way she had not been since shedding the mortal coil in the embrace of her sire.

Benvenuto had spared her despite the anger and betrayal she had read in his eyes as some of the extent of her perfidiousness was laid bare before him. Any doubt she may have had as to the genuine depth of his feelings for her had been dispelled by the single blood tear that had fallen from his whiskey colored eyes and the broken “Why?” She had known her reply would decide her fate.

She wove a masterful tale. Reframing her relationship with Dorian, from the beginning, as someone she considered to be too valuable of an asset to let age and die. His financial prowess would have been a boon for the Camarilla, for Benvenuto directly as money equals power and it had seemed the perfect time to fully bring his skills into the fold for their use.

She implied she had found his refusal to grant Dorian the embrace unreasonable and short-sided, due to an irrational jealousy of a man she had been interested in only for the benefits he would bring to their Kingdom. She would have acted the same if the individual had been female or unattractive.

Benvenuto had listened with closed eyes and a rigid bearing. In the end, he had decided to keep her betrayal to himself, keeping her on as Harpy.

She knew any further treachery on her part would result in a Blood Hunt order. She also knew if Benvenuto were to speak with Dorian, they would both be killed.

So she had stayed in her place, continuing to be his Harpy - occasionally informed when news came of Dorian and the attempts to bring him to the Baltimore Elysium for questioning, always sent to assist in the clean up of any brutal deaths in the areas Dorian was spotted. She could not look for him, she could not go to him, and so she despaired.

The despair turned to anger, which grew into a fury that would not abate.

Now, Benvenuto had heard news of Dorian in a reasonably close kingdom. Close enough that She was being sent in the tracking and… capture attempts. Ben had intimated it would also save a bit of time with the inevitable clean-up efforts.

Finally, FINALLY, she could be reunited with her love.
