Far to the South deep within the Sea lay the ever strange Violet Isles. Called as such by foreign sailors for their ever seemingly shifting shores and colour changing treetops when seen in moonlight from afar. The small chain of islands is generally avoided as they are spotted with many dangerous jungles, swamps, hills and valleys home to an array of strange creatures and beasts.
Native to these islands are small clans of Tabaxi and are said to be direct decedents from the first clans that traveled here from their native and ancient beginnings on the far side of the world. These clans live in a constant state of tribal politics and survival in the harsh dangerous confines of their homeland but has led to the Tabaxi here to become cunning warriors, masters of the hunt, and develop a deeply spiritual connection to their gods, Nula being one of their favored goddesses. Shamanistic rituals are common here, sacrifices and otherworldly curses are generally linked to the magics of the Tabaxi clans of the Violet Isles, with wild rumors circulating about the visions and spirits that are witnessed by foreigners who return from the isles.
Fallen Twig (Twig) was a hunter of one of these clans, from the Lone Forest, a large patch of Jungle surrounded by a marsh a mile wide. Here her clan would hunt the giant winged lizards and birds that perched atop the trees, and gather fruits from the jungle floors. But her talent lay elsewhere, she would not be confined by the lone forest and would often leave to need to seek out magical objects coveted by rival clans, often attempting to loot them with her fellow clan mates to the severe scorn of her clan mother High Canopy (Canopy). One of these adventures out led her to the body of a fellow Tabaxi Burden of Chains (Burden) from one of the far hill tribes, ripped to shreds by one of the many dangerous lizards that inhabited the swamps but a tell tale slice that leaked an amber liquid. Identified later as a poison that is found and made on the Violet Isles.
Clutched in the paws of the remains of this fallen warrior was a symbol to the spirits of the island, and without hesitation Twig grabbed it, opening herself up to a flood of energy. With the feeling of a thousand souls of her ancestors being forced down into her throat she felt herself gasping for air being torn and pulled down into the muck of the swamp floor below. She awoke to the visions of what seemed to be the goddess Nula statue and her many worshippers. They beckoned her onwards through a nebula of spirits and whispering to her of a sad tale of the murder of Burden and how they couldn’t see who but only the what, a dagger seeping with amber liquid. Darkness consumed her followed by the words, “get up” She opened her eyes to find herself on the edge of the lone forest, her paws covered in dried blood and the symbol hung around her neck as a necklace. “Now go” she heard whispered by the spirits.
