Forgotten Relics, Part 2 Report

General Summary

Ebb, Ix, and Vinny are chasing after Coal, a warforged who wanted to report a crime to the Sharn Watch.
It looks like another group is after her, too. Four kobolds and a female human, who shouts, "Get her!" before pursuing...
As Coal runs into an alley to escape, the human reveals herself as a shifter, and catches the forged, striking out with razor sharp claws and cutting deep into Coal's remaining arm.
Ix draws her longsword and closes the distance to the shifter, where she lands a critical blow!
Vinny stands his ground, turning to face down a couple of the kobolds. He manages to keep them from pursuing Coal into the alleyway long enough for Ebb to cast a spell and put three of the creatures to sleep.
The remaining kobold begins to wave his hands around, muttering incantations. It casts Sacred Flame, searing Ebb with radiant damage.
The shifter tries to make a run for it, but Ix tosses a handaxe after her. The haft knocks the shifter right in the head, sending her sprawling.
The remaining kobold acolyte looks like he's going to run, too. Vinny runs up, slamming the spellcaster with the flat of his sword and then punching him with the crossguard.
Ebb finishes off the kobold with a blow from his warhammer.

Vinny to Coal: "Do you trust us now?"
Ebb hoists the shifter—presumably, the group's leader—and takes her a few blocks to Coal's small living quarters.
It's here that Coal tells the party why she was trying to contact the Watch.
About a month ago, her partner Razor and eleven other Cyran warforged refugees in High Walls received a job with House d'Orien, digging in Old Sharn.
The job was hush-hush, and Razor wasn't even supposed to tell Coal. But it became increasingly difficult, given the bad work conditions.
Three weeks went by, with no major issues, but then... the forged never returned. So Coal went to report it to the Sharn Watch.
The group wakes up the shifter, and Ix does her best to intimidate. It works, and the shifter tells all.
She works for Daask, is a low level grunt with her own crew (the kobolds). She got a letter from Garra, a half-ogre lieutenant with some cache, telling her to take out Coal. That's all she knows.
Vinny suggests that they turn the shifter over to the Watch or bring her back to the Cog Carnival, but the shifter begs for her life. Swears she has some gold she can give them, so the group escorts her a few blocks over to her apartment. She has 15 gold galifars. Vinny takes 14, and gives her the one remaining. "Make better decisions."
The group gives Coal 5 of the coins, Ebb gives her his 3, and then they escort her to Terminus where she boards a train to Wroat.

Their only remaining lead is House d'Orien. At Ix's suggestion, Ebb and Vinny try to clean up a bit, and then they make the trek to Mithral Tower and Alden d'Orien's Unicorn Estate.
Ix uses her courtly knowledge to request an audience with Alden, and when Vinny chimes in with what the group knows about the missing warforged, the noble's valet, Vishti, brings them inside to meet with Alden.
They reveal that Alden's son, Kaden, was kidnapped by Daask about a month ago.
A note from Garra came shortly afterward: "If you want your son back, hire a crew that won't ask questions and won't be missed, and have them dig in Old Sharn. Here's a lift for them to use which has been modified to reach Old Sharn. Don't ask questions and you'll get him back."
Alden wants the group to stop asking questions. He even goes to fetch some money to pay them off.
Vishti sends Vinny a psychic message: "They'll kill Kaden no matter what. But if you can save him, we'll make sure you're rewarded. There's a lift a few blocks down the street. It's out of order, but you seem like you should be able to fix it."
Alden comes back with a bag with 50 gp. Vinny tells him that they'll leave well enough alone, and the group leaves the estate.
