Session 11: More to Come Report

General Summary

Flinair interrogated the Goblin Sergeant, who agreed to show them where a "magic stick" is, as well as a pony, if they let him take the other pony and ride off. Goblin told them the new chief of the tribe is an Ogre, who came down from the mountains before the winter before the last winter, with his "sons", killed the old chief, then mated with the women of the tribe to make more sons (he now has 15).   They made the deal but then, after the goblin gave them a wand and rode off Rheihana shot it and killed it, which caused some consternation with Flinair, who made the deal.   The party was ready to set out when the patrol from the BurrowFort came riding up, four of the riders on two horses. The riders told the group that they had attacked the goblins they'd been warned about at the Tomb and scattered them, only to have a massive orc with a huge orc dog attacked them, taking two horses out from under them, and pursuing them as they fled. Their sergeant turned back at the Old Stone House to hold back the orgron and wardog. The remaining outriders asked the group to either escort them to the Fort or, if they felt up for it, to go and try to rescue the sergeant.   The group headed out to find Sergeant Vexil. They approached the old stone house cautiously, but the orgron appeared from behind a small but steep hill and fired a massive cross bow at Rheihana, narrowly missing as she ducked in her saddle (spent free +1). It ducked back behind the hill a bit to retrieve another loaded crossbow, and tried again to hit Rheihana, missing her more widely. The group approached him, while R rode out to the right, looking for his dog. As the group approached the dog came out of the stone house to charge Sven, who put all his efforts into warding the coming blow, crashing into his shield and nearly splintering it. Failing to get a good bite on Sven the dog ran past, looping around to come at the party from another direction. As this happened the orgron hefted his massive axe and charged for little Jarvis. He missed cleanly, the nimble gnome easily avoiding his clumsy blow.
The Orgron and the wardog circle the party a bit, dodging in and out. Eventually they both end up north of the group when Rheihana charges in at the wolf, having staid on its tail the entire time. She deals it a very minor blow, but then the orgron steps in and smacks her horse with his axe, sending it panicking away from the fight. This flight leaves the horse vulnerable to the wolf, who clamps on and brings it down, the horse wailing in pain and trapping Rheihana under it. The dog attempts to bite at her but is blocked. Just then Sven charges in, delivering a shattering blow to the orgron's shin, leaving it vulnerable to a quick smash to the face to kill it. At this the wardog flees, too fast for any to catch it with Rheihana's horse down.
The group binds their wounds, then makes the three day trek back to the Burrowfort. There they return the body of Sergeant Vexil, found dead and dismembered and partially eaten inside the Stone House. They get a 20sp reward for the heads of the orgron and the wardog. They talk to Spearshield, who says he is hoping they can put a stop to the orc raid before they return with enough prizes to cause a full scale invasion. The group sent to the Northfork river isn't expected for several more days yet, if not more, and the authorities back in Magera aren't taking the threat too seriously. The group stays at the fort a few days to train Maly, who learns a bit of riding and gets better with her sword, and to heal up her strained tendon a bit while they decide what their next action will be.
They also get a letter from the Captain of Magera's guard, Esbeth D'or. She tells them that she does not yet have any solid evidence against the thieve's guild, but she has learned they have a secret facility somewhere in the city. Once she finds it she would like the group to return to clear it out.

Missions/Quests Completed

Group interrogated a goblin sergeant and learned that the chief of the tribe that is raiding is named Bagthor Bloodfist, a Snogre who came down out of the mountains with two of his "sons", killed the old chief, and mated with the women of the tribe to make himself more sons, giving him 15 in total. He has come to raid with orcs, 5 of his sons, and goblins to prove that he should lead all the tribes from the Bloodflow valley and the surrounding hills and mountains.
