Session 15: A reckoning Report

General Summary

The Battle with Bagthar Bloodfist and his cleric of the Overlord was touch and go for the adventurers. Jarvis attempted to sneak up on the goblins in Riverwatch's ruins, but he was spotted when he was almost there, and the battle was on. Bagthar quickly emerged from his tent to charge at Jarvis while Rheihanna circled around to the east side of the tower and came at Bagthar with a lance charge that proved only slightly effective. Maly broke from the line of advance and charged in to try to save Jarvis.
They took some early hits, with Maly and Hobar, their relatively new cleric of the Lantern going down in pain to swipes of the might Snogre's axe. Sven and Jarvis dealt with the goblins, fighting a mostly standstill battle in the ruins of Riverwatch, but Jarvis managed to down one of the two goblin bodyguards easily early in the fight.
One of the two hired polearm fighters was scared off by a spell from the goblin cleric, who Flinair learned during the battle was named Riga (his bodyguards kept referring to him by name). The longbow mercenary they hired earned her pay though, as she kept putting arrows into Bagthar, the first few ineffectual, but then finding their mark as the battle dragged on. Eventually Hobar recovered from his injuries, then used his divine blessings to get Maly back up and into the fight. Bold as ever and very self assured she charged back in, delivering a strong slash to Bagthar (the biggest yet at that time in the battle) but taking a devastating blow to the chest that ripped clean through her and left her sprawled on the dirt, the light gone out of her eyes (31pts of damage when she had 10 or so hp left).   Sven had already moved away from the fight in the tower, heading after one of his peoples' ancient enemies, who he had the best ability to fight toe-to-toe with. Flinair had used most of his magical reserves already, hitting the snogre with a powerful magic projectile, and so he hefted his staff and headed in to the tower to support Jarvis, though Jarvis was proving very difficult to hit for the cleric and his remaining bodyguard. Together they brought down the bodyguard goblin and forced the cleric to fight defensively, waiting for his master Bagthar to come help.   Bagthar took a bad hit to the shin from Sven, and moved to disengage after dehorsing and nearly killing Rheihanna and killing Maly. He ran around the east side of the tower, intending to help his beleaguered cleric, his right hand goblin. He swiped at Flinair, who was just finishing a spell, but the cowardly elf kicked soot into Bagthar's eyes to throw off his aim. The scorch spell Flinair finished washed over Bagthar and the cleric, with the Priest of the New Order falling immediately to a well placed thrust of Jarvis's dagger. After that Sven stepped in and, after reflecting a bit of firelight into Bagthar's eyes from the nearby fire, delivered the final, telling blow to the great snogre chief's groin.
