Fatemakers Session Five: The coming tides of war
General Summary
Our heroes spent the night outside smelling range of the “Driftmass”, recovering from their ordeal killing the Drift Core. In the morning they debated how to proceed, deciding on heading back the way they came to warn Trange-Sur-Lorre about the “Bear King” and his army of wolves. On the way, they stumbled across a group of wolves attacking members of the animals befriended by the Fatemakers. Urged on by their friends, Arviel and Beor, they charged in and managed to slay all the wolves, but not before losing a goose ally in combat. Arviel was given the sad news that his actions aiding the Fatemakers had triggered civil war among the animal. Jostocles the Stag had taken his allies and fled to Trange-Sur-Lorre to help the humans, led by Page, in the coming battle. The surviving animals offered to lead the band along a swift path and our heroes graciously accepted. When they arrived, the group met with Page and Jostocles to see how they could help. Page assigned them to the Southern Wall’s defense and bid them to get some rest and food after their journey. Our heroes did not see their horses which they had to leave behind in the Bear King’s Glade among the animals, but they were more concerned with the coming battle to search for them. Some effort was made to shore up the defense and to heal the wounded in preparation for the coming war. The next morning there was a notable change in the animals among their alliance, they seemed to be slowly losing the intelligence they had gained from the Drift. After further investigation confirmed their suspicions (though it seemed the “un-awakening” would not be a swift process), the group agreed to set out on a reconnaissance patrol to survey the enemy, assisted by two young rabbit archers they had met earlier, Stomper “Trickster” and Twix. The Fatemakers snuck close enough to count the enemy (approx. 60-70) and noted that they had taken to wearing a crude sigil of the Bear King for identification. The group moved on after scouting but were spotted by a passing patrol of wolves and combat broke out. It was short but brutal and most of the band escaped unscathed, leaving behind the corpses of the wolves and fleeing to town. On the way back, the Fatemakers gathered some vibrantly colored berries, and took them to the townsfolk with an idea. They would take all the berries and mix them with the towns dye supply to color the allied animals in a brilliant purple. Thus, making it clear as day which animals were friend and which foe when the attack finally came. They discussed this with Jostocles and Page and got their approval, setting more plans in place for the coming Seige of Trange-Sur-Lorre.
