Fatemakers Session Eleven: Shard of Epitaph; The Awakened Wolves Attack

General Summary

The death of Ruby Xander was a stunning blow to the Fatemakers, and they lashed out against the monstrous creature, thought to be a splinter of Epitaph himself. Blow after blow they landed, though it seemed to do little against the monster, which resembled a combination of the Bear King (who's blood the splinter used to fabricate this body,) and the form seen by the Fatemakers when Epitaph gave his original warning to the skylands.   All the while the ship remained engaged with the Jolly Roger; once a merchants frigate, now a ravager's ship commanded by awakened wolves, under orders from the late Bear King himself. The Raven's Fortune took quite a pounding from the Jolly Roger's cannons, though unbeknownst to the Fatemakers, Missy, the newest member of the Fatemakers, and Glikglug, were onboard the Jolly Roger. They wreaked havoc, coming from below deck and sewing chaos aboard the deck, distracting the alpha piloting the ship and keeping him from lining up a proper broadside (though Evan McDermitt's fancy flying was a big part as well.)   During the duel with the shard, it reveals it's ability to "shift" and teleport short distances, appearing behind Kellan. Kellan was grabbed and thrown from the Raven's Fortune, into the lower deck of the Jolly Roger. Once he had recovered, he made his way above, discovering Missy and Glikglug and joining them against the wolf ravagers. Volundr manages to kick the shard off the ship. Believing the beast gone, Hide tosses a boarding hook, and crosses over to the Jolly Roger to assist Kellan.    The shard shifts back onto the ship, grabbing Olly Valen and using her as a weapon against Volundr, hurting both of them. Volundr and Evan eventually take down the shard, dealing bit after bit of damage, around the same time everyone on the Jolly Roger finished off the ravagers. When Volundr finally dealt the killing blow on the shard, it dissolved back into bloodform, dripping down and seeming to crawl very quickly into Xander's body, repairing the damage and seeming to resuscitate her. Though when she opens her eyes, she has the same familiar blood red glow attributed to Epitaph and the ravagers. She winks at Volundr, before falling backwards off the bow of the Raven's Fortune.   The party recouped, lashed the Raven's Fortune to the Jolly Roger, and made the rest of the journey to Kankos, filling in Missy as to what had happened, while she informs them she is an artificer from The Hand of Anidinth, sent to Braega Outpost on Kankos. She had been knocked into a coma for two weeks when the ravagers took the ship from Fairburn Skyland.   They soon reach Kankos, and meet with a Dwarf who agrees to trade with them, offering them 160,000 gold for the 20 automatons they had managed to salvage. (Missy kept one for herself.) They also trade the Raven's Fortune in exchange for a repair and refit of the Jolly Roger.
