Session 25: A Whole New World Report

General Summary

After a side quest of finding dragon glass that can help repair the damaged ship, the party performs the necessary repairs to the submariner ship and sets off through the continued caverns. Continuing to descend through the dark depths, they find themselves coming out of an opening where they go from walls that extend beyond their view above and below and every angle in between, but emerge into deep blue otherwise. The massive open ocean extends from the walls beyond where the eye can see; a disconcerting fact to say the least.   The party continues their pathway forward, navigating as best as they can. The sounds of whales and large sea creatures emerges from afar, eventually coming closer and closer to reveal not just a normal sized structure of a whale, but one impossibly large for any familiar body of water. Passing close enough to intimidate the crew of the three ships, each ship is still smaller than the eye of the massive creature that passes by uninterested by the small ships.   Further disconcerting is the lack of feeling of depth or direction. If not for the gravity holding them to the ship they would have no sense of bearing whatsoever.   Eventually the waters in front of them start to get somewhat brighter and brighter, eventually revealing sunlight in front of the ship’s bow; somehow they have been traveling upwards for what feels like days. They emerge from the depths to the surface. Checking the horizon they see what looks like a floating city of sorts; nothing but huts floating on boardwalks and pier like materials.   Setting a small landing party, they encounter all makes of seafaring creatures; primarily resembling pirates and sea fishermen, trading goods, enjoying taverns, and general requirements of the sea. Looking for a guide of sorts, they encounter a Captain Barbacoa, a sea fairer who knows of an Aboleth cavern not far off. He also reveals that the party is no longer in the land they came from; they are now in the Plane of Water. He does recommend the team not keep their ships close, but instead guides them to a place where they can be safe for a time.   Hopping into his ship he brings them beneath the waves and locates them in a recess between a gargantuan sea turtle, swimming beneath the waves in a slow, lethargic manner. The party remains here for a long rest; one where the sun never seems to set above the surface.
