Session 33: A Branching of Paths Report

General Summary

After concluding your business with Tontiri Moldknuckle, purchasing a couple items and a few potions, you headed back towards Carvers to search out a gem merchant. Along the way you encountered a drow woman speaking to a crowd from atop a wagon. She seemed to be espousing something about the a second Eye of Twilight having been discovered by the surfacers and insisting that the Covenant should demand its return so that the Twilight Mother can awaken. She punctuated her speech with a call to force action if the Covenant refused to.   The crowd did not seem very swayed by her impassioned pleas. Just as she was about to begin her evangelizing again a sour looking Hobgoblin pushed his way through the crowd followed by two Bugbears. He proceeded to ask her for her permit appearing to begin the process of shaking her down when Richard intervened and convinced the Hobgoblin with a timely bribe that the woman was perhaps not entirely sane and that Richard would see to her health. The bribe accepted the Hobgoblin and his minions retreated but, not before Richard noticed the black ring of The Dun Host tattooed on the hobgoblin's forearm.   Walking with you all away from the crowd, the woman introduced herself as Nera Ponoc and that she was a representative of an group who held beliefs outside the norm of Dunohini religion. She answered some of your questions and offered to introduce you to her group's leader, Protector Mekov if you wanted to know more. You arranged to meet her in 24 hours when she would take you to her group's hideout.   Parting ways with Nera you returned to Carvers and procured a diamond that Mizuho had been looking for as a component for a spell. Richard had an idea that perhaps the Hobgoblin, introduced by Nera as Macsimilon "The Axe" Tureem, who supposedly led a local gang known as "The Axegrinders" might know something about The Herald or other goings on in Endan Dun. Returning to The Webs you learned that The Axe could be found in a tavern called "Beerelstalk".   The discussion with Macs didn't yield any fruit about The Herald but you did learn of the existence of someone called "Boot" that Macs originally thought had sent you. You made a deal with Macs to possibly supply furniture from the surface if he could find a buyer before leaving.   Deciding that you needed to find something to eat and drink and possibly try to ask some pointed questions of someone who was a bit into their cups, you find another restaurant called "The Mother's Rest" on the outer edge of Carvers. There you met a group of Stirge Watchers who hold a club at The Mother's Rest which has wide balconies that overlook the Beryl Mycelium. From Kira, one of the Stirge Watchers, you learned a few things about The Dunohin Covenant and how Dunohini society is organized. They also told you about the Grand Archive and the Grand Academy of the Covenant which is located elsewhere in the district.   Richard asked about the Kellek sigil, telling a story about encountering people who were repeatedly drawing it and talking about a man with stars in his eyes, and Kira expressed concern that anyone would be drawing that symbol. She identified it as the sigil of their ancient ancestors who were responsible for the exile of the Dunohin and who's sins the Dunohin were attempting to atone for. She indicated that if you crossed anyone else related to that symbol then they should be reported to the Order of the Twilight Mother or the Shardbreakers. Both could be found either at shrines throughout the city or in the Twilight Sanctum.   With couple new leads and a bit more knowledge of the goings on of the city, you settled down to enjoy your drinks and discuss your next move.
