Session 8: The Lair of the Basilisk Report
General Summary
The task force waited 48 hours as discussed. Indalells reconnaissance provided little insight to the Basilisk base, teleportation seemed to be their primary method of accessing it. The Gaseous Form potions were acquired, tho indalell opted to take the reduce person route, as he had already crawled thru the filth once, why waste the gold now? Around supper time they entered the Sewers; accompanied by one of Ismarils Starlight guards; Caelith. As the nebulous clouds of gas began to reform into the bodies of the task force, A'lar went to work casting prestidigitation to remove the filth that Indalell had accumulated on his trek thru the rough hewn canals carved to make the bases latrine run to the sewer. Listening carefully at the door a full size Indalell would slip thru quietly shutting it behind him to look into the meeting hall. The tables were in neat rows as he recalled from his short time here, but they were empty, bowls and cups were strewn haphazardly and most of the crates and barrels were gone. Opening the door to let the others in, Adalon would stride confidently to the center of the room, as he did glyphs of magic in the floor would flare and the deafening sounds of magic portals echoed in the small room, various elementals emerging from them; 2 Ice, an earth, Water, and air would be ripped from the spirit plane to attack them.
Indalell was the first to spring to action his blades cutting into the water elemental, causing its liquid form to splatter and splash. Ismaril's eyes would go black as the palpable of aura of dread began to emanate from her. An Ice elemental would stride over and raise its jagged fists to strike her to only be paralyzed with its own fear. Longwei, still in his gaseous state would float thru the carnage and investigate an adjacent room finding a ransacked kitchen. Ayrien and Vaera pushed forward to tangle with the second Ice Elemental, breaking off chunks of its frozen form. Adalon would duck the hammering fist of the earth elemental before empowering his curved blade with his divine gift, striking heavily into it. A'lar would look to Caelith still in the bathroom "Best get in there!" Caelith would rush forward to cover Ismaril and face off with the wind, his sword having little impact, before the creature returned the attack slamming him to the wall with a gust of wind. Sauntering after him, his magics would animate a near by bowl that would scoop away at the form of the water elemental before flying across the room to shatter. The Elementals would be quickly dispatched with none but Caelith being much the worse for ware. A'lar would pass out the potentially addictive Elixir of Life potions he was so fond of, to help patch up the guardsmen. Longwei would move across the room to the other door slipping beneath it to find a teleport orb, taking his material form he would alert the others. A'lar having created an Illusion of the Ice elemental would send it thru the halls to the north as a trap finder. Adalon would go to investigate the Teleport orb to find it had been sabotaged, its magical energies surging and exploding before him, showering him in crystal shrapnel.
The Basilisk headquarters would appear to be vacated as they moved thru bunk rooms which had the look of being ransacked and hastily left. Finding next a large meeting room, Ismaril would climb over the large tables at the center of the room wishing to avoid traps, the loyal Caelith grumbling as he followed her over. As she reached the door on the opposite side, feeling at ease she would touch the door knob, as another glyph would flare and the loud crackle of portals erupted around them. This time 7 elementals emerged, Fire, 2 Mud, Ice, 2 Earth, and Magma. Indalell again would spring to action and face the Fire Elemental that appeared to the left of Ismaril, his blades cutting thru the creatures flaming form. Ayrien and Vaera would rush to face the fire elemental, her spear tinking off its rocky form. Ismaril would dodge the sludgy strikes of a mud Elemental before her and Caelith would cut into it with their blades. A'lar would start, as the Magma elemental lumbered over and slammed its molten fist into him, his clothes catching fire. Yelping he would duck away and attempt to douse himself with little luck. Adalones Curved blade would lash out and cut into the magma beast, causing it to shriek in pain but then he would see as Ayrien was under heavy assault, her armor denting and deforming as the boulder fists of the earth elemental slammed into her, and the second mud elemental bogged Vaera down in its mire. Longwei would push thru and slam his fists into the mud elemental facing Ismaril, its form disintegrating into a goopy mess upon the table. Indalell would dispatch the fire elemental, getting lightly singed in the process before stepping down to face the mud elemental attacking his feline ally. Ayrien would shift back away from the earth elemental and begin to summon her magic as Adalon rushed over to face the creature, giving her a short reprieve, his blade cutting into the stony creature. Enraged it would slam its heavy fists into Adalon, his vision blurring as he struggled to maintain consciousness. Ismaril would face the ice elemental before dispatching it with her crystalline rapier, Allowing Caelith to round the table and cut the Magma Elemental Down. Longwei seeing Adalon in peril would rush to his aide and with a flying round house kick shatter the head of the earth elemental and land with grace in a protective posture over the dazed Adalon. A'lar would continue to protest and his burning clothes attempting to douse himself, now with Caeliths aide, extinguishing the flames. Indalell dispatching the last of the elementals, would breathy heavily and pat at out the few cinders upon his clothing.
A'lar would once more pass out his somewhat addictive elixirs of life to get everyone back on their feet from the second elemental attack which had proven more challenging. They next found an armory, jail, and the private rooms of the Basilisk, but all were emptied of anything useful. The last door would open to a rough hewn stone pathway down into a larger cave and the sounds of rushing waters. Indalell would creep forward finding a large rushing sewer path, with moorings for small rafts, but all empty. Unknown to him, the Basilisk and several of his cell lay in weight, watching, listening, but not seeing the stealthy Indalell. As the task force carefully picked their way thru the dark cave looking for clues, their hidden enemy would finally spot Adalon, and with a roar, the Basilisk would call for the charge...battle would be joined....
